Hey guys new here. Bought this 06’ tundra a few months ago. Can these grill covers be painted? And what should be used. What causes this discoloration?

Or is it easier to find replacements online?

    thanks
    guys

    Alot of them
Sparksparts does not show being able to purchase the covers separatly. It appears that they are a part of the entire door panel.

Entire door panel can be removed for deep cleaning. It’s probably got some grime on it from over the years. Also may be scuffed from peoples shoes getting in and out of the truck.

Prior owner was just being handed his sweet tea and a 7-piece combo with extra gravy at the chicken finger place when the driver-side LBJ gave without warning?

Seriously though, I’d remove it and try a toothbrush on it.

The AC and RC models don't have metal grilles, so I can't comment on how your DC is removed, but a lot of times the mesh is just held on with flat tabs that extend thru the door card, you can fold those perpendicular to the panel, and slide the cover off.

The stuff on top looks like surface rust. The stuff on the flat surface of the grille looks like grime. Either way, if you remove the panel, a 10-minute application of Naval Jelly and subsequent rinse should dissolve whatever is there without marring the paint, but test in an inconspicuous spot (i.e. one of the tabs that's normally hidden) before going whole hog.

I agree with @JasonC. that hitting it with a toothbrush and degreaser of your choice could take off anything non-rust, just note: Simple Green in its original green liquid version is effective at this task, but it's a big no-no on certain metals such as alloys. It was banned from military aircraft use for a reason - the bottle instructions lay out what metals to avoid.

It's the same on my 06 DC Limited. You can also remove the JBL logo by bending a couple of metal tabs

Thanks for the confirmation! The only part that sucks is ... gotta pop off the door card (at least partially) to remove the damn thing :D

But this is one of things things that's better done with the piece you need to clean being separate of the panel.
