10 micron or smaller oil filter available?

    I have a 2007 5.7 liter.

What is this iForce engine model number?

Does anyone know if there is a 10 or smaller micron filter replacement?

The best I can find is 20-25 micron.

I'll be using a single or double bypass filter that goes to 1-2 micron in addition to that.

What's the reasoning? Sounds like a lot of overthinking IMO.

You have a 14 year old Tundra with xxxxx miles on it. It has likely had any number of different brands of oil filters on it. The Toyota OE filter has sufficient filtering efficiency to make the 5.7L engines run hundreds of thousands of miles, reliably. From your two posts, I agree with a previous poster, start with the owners manual. Sounds like this is a new to you Tundra. Almost everything you need to know about operating and maintaining your truck is in the manual.

Wouldn’t that restrict the flow as the engine wasn’t designed for that and end up being worse?

If you go too fine on the filter, you're likely to send all your oil through the bypass valve, so what's the point?

If you are asking the question you probably already know this, but oil filter efficiency isn't a cut off - there is a non linear curve. A 99% at 20 micron filter like an Amsoil will screen out a percentage of 10 micron particles. It's just that the SAE standard doesn't require it and companies don't report it.

With that said, no full flow engine filter that I have ever seen (edit: for a Tundra) will effectively do 99% at 10 micron. You will need a bypass filter to get to that level.

I will also throw in an opinion: while 10 micron contaminants in academic studies have shown to cause considerably more wear than a 20+ micro, the academics of this level of filtration don't translate into tangible real world results. Toyota 5.7L engines have proven over and over again that they do not require the extra filtration in order to ensure longevity.

    Engine model is 3UR-FE.

Good luck, you’re probably throwing money at a non issue.

    3UR-FE - thanks.

Part of my reasoning is proprietary - this is to be used as a test bed for various experiments.

I'll be using a 20 micron/99% efficient Fram or Amsoil filter with a bypass - about the best I can find.

If there is a 10 micron or even 5 micron at 60% efficient filter avail, no, it would not restrict too much oil and about 60% might be about the best I could expect but in any case, looks like Fram/Amsoil will do just fine.

Yes, most damage is the smaller particles, hence the bypass.

For oil, Amsoil is good but the bearing tests they use aren't even applicable to engine wear tests, unfortunately. But their transmission/diff oil does seem to be the best.

For engine oil, Redline's data shows it is superior to Amsoil and they use tests that do apply to engine wear. Synlube is even better but I need to do some testing with plentiful, off the shelf oil. Most people are turned off by Synlube's ancient website, but you can't argue with the results.

What most people consider small differences is highly significant to me for my purposes.

I've had this truck for about 2 weeks - 100300 miles or so when I had it delivered here to Spokane from the Seattle area. It's a crewmax limited - I'm loving it so far except for a few bugs like the clicking auto retract mirror every time I turn it on, etc. but for the most part, its in great shape and clean for a 2007. I also think it looks the best compared to other trucks in it's category. Super dark green, which I never saw around here. Anyway, looking forward to learning more about this truck and getting it into the shape that I want.

My other current cars are a:
1998 Subaru Legacy GT wagon 5 speed
2006 Subaru Legacy XT turbo wagon 5 speed
    1977 Datsun 620 pickup 5 speed

This Tundra is the first automatic I ever owned an I'm 48. lol

Good luck setting up a bypass filtration system in conjunction with the filter element housing.

It seems I've watched something on this , an It came down to , different filters an oil set ups tuned the engine's demand use case. If what is you plan or reasoning for the finer filter and adding more to it? more filters and more finer restrictions will cause a loss in HP and oil pressure or it may just hit the bypass valve witch wont do you any good.

This Tuning information is best left up to specialists of Oil , oil filters an so fourth. Not something thats just a universal answer to find on a forum.

The smaller the particle filter the harder it is for oil's flow through.

Love it. My grandfather stood out in a little town in Montana because he was the only one with this pickup. It caused a lot of long looks and comments. He laughed as it served him well for decades...
