$100 New OEM Card Keys on Ebay

Says it’s for a Tacoma

 

They don’t make one for tundra. Tacoma only. It’ll work

3rd Gen Tundra owners have used this Taco key and it works. Wasn't willing to pay $350 for it from Raveoffroad or even $300 from the dealer. At $100, seemed like a no-brainer. The Ebayer must have bought a shipping container full of them, hence the wholesale pricing.

 

Someone remind me why we want these?

 

To prevent from hitting the buttons while ur fob is in ur pocket, especially the tailgate button. U can put it in ur wallet, I think its about 2-3 cards thick. I hardly use the buttons on the fob anyways, having the app on my watch and phone is a game-changer. Plus, with proximity and push button start, u never have to take this out of ur wallet.

 

I originally made my own fob case that didn't have buttons. However, it was a little chunkier than I was wanting. With this, it's thin and fits in a wallet. A credit card like Tesla or the digital key on the Crown is the ticket ultimately. For now, this will do.

 

I'd like one, just don't know how much it would cost to program.

 

Was 1hr labor at local dealer. Locksmith wanted nothing to do with it.

 

I'm thinking an upper tier scan tool can do it through the security menu.

I tried to get mine programmed by a locksmith, didn't work. Maybe someone else will have better luck as I've seen this works. Luckily the Ebayer excepts returns and I only paid $35 for the locksmith to come to me and try. All well. FWIW, the locksmith mentioned something about a lawsuit going on with Toyota. Something about Toyota not wanting locksmiths to program their fobs.

How do you drop the tailgate, use panic button, or auto start the truck without touching the truck if you use this card method?

seems like folks are trying to go for less wallet needs and mostly mobile for everyday purchases.

I also wonder if a flipperzero could pull any information off the fob? I’m going to give it a try.

 

I can't tell if this is a serious question. In case it is then clearly you won't be able to do it from this key fob.

As much as I'd like to go walletless everywhere I go I just don't see it being a thing for a while. I'd rather be keyless to be honest. I can start the truck or unlock/lock remotely with my phone.

 

You can’t go to the store for that quick milk replenish without walking back inside to get the keys you forgot to get. Hmmmm as long as you have your wallet and card key inside, you’re all set.

 

Makes sense. It was a real question. I’m here to learn and was trying to see the benefits vs what is taken away. Agree on going walletless it’s more for the younger generation. They are just adding their id and a cc to a pocket on the phone case. I don’t love the fact you need a subscription for remote start.

 

I guess you could also misplace your wallet like your key fob. Then you’re really in a tough spot.

when it’s cold or raining or both it’s nice to unlock the doors for passengers on approach with the fob. You could present examples for days but really trying to see if this may be for me. I like tech and appreciate everyone’s input to help see what I may not think about.

 

I know I have been outside many occasions where I had my wallet and not the key fob to the Tundra or another vehicle I owned due to driving another vehicle (I’m not carrying around 6 key and fob sets always), and would loved to have had a wallet fob. That doesn’t say I’m ordering one today… but there are uses for this product.

Another option is key fob and Apple Pay. No one forgets their phone. I do card access credentials for a living and the early days saturated the market with cards that could be duplicated very easily. So I’m just skeptical about how secure these cards are, especially if coming from overseas. Look up what a flipperzero can do. I have one and it’s eye popping that it can copy and emulate. Not sure if this is the same tech however.
