My back up camera suddenly came on while driving and it shuts the radio off. I will go back to normal for a few minutes and then the camera activates and the radio shuts off again. I also noticed that my USB hub doesn't work. I saw someone posted about this prior, but it was unresolved. There are no modifications to the truck. I checked fuses and everything appears OK. Anyone have any ideas?

Hmmm. Haven’t heard of this issue before. In normal operations The head unit will display the rear cam video when the reverse signal is set by the shifter.

Does this only happen while driving? Have you had any issues with your reverse tail lights?

The reverse video signal is the same 12 volts that powers the reverse lights. If you had some sort of intermittent 12 volts contacting the reverse light terminal it could cause the camera to display. But it would also probably turn on the reverse lights. Hard to see this if it only happens while driving.

You could check your tail light connectors to make sure they are tightly connected and then perhaps check the 30 pin connector on the back of the head unit.

The shifter reverse switch could also be going bad. If it happens again, take a look at your gear indicator and see if the R illuminates.

All this is kinda shotgun troubleshooting based on the symptoms. And none of it should cause the radio to “shut off”. Do you mean the audio is silenced? It seems the head unit is still powered if you are seeing video.

The audio would cut out if an Aux audio input was plugged in. So there could be something going on with the aux jack as well.

You could pop out the aux power/audio/USB panel as well to make sure everything looks good there.

Very strange problem. Let us know if any of this helps.

It stays on while driving. I've checked every fuse. I noticed the USB doesn't work, either. The camera is always on and it kills the radio/XM/bluetooth sounds completely. I got the system to reboot once and it worked for a little bit, and then it went back to the reverse camera.

Does the camera stay on while you are in park with the engine running? That may help narrow down the issue if it’s the wiring. A fuse would not likely cause this type of problem.

Did you have a power glitch like maybe jump starting another vehicle or changing out your battery before this started happening?

You are describing problems that seem to be unrelated electrically. I would start by updating your head unit firmware. And see if that helps anything. Instructions and the files are available from Toyota at this site:
