    From the top.

Kimber Custom 2 9mm Govt size.
Effortless tack driver out of the box, fun range gun, so much so I sometimes resist the urge to take it and find something harder to shoot so its trigger and mechanical accuracy don’t spoil me too much.

    Colt Series 80 Mark 4 9mm.
First 1911, bought used. I won’t buy them used anymore. Kitchen table gunsmithed with the innards filed down excessively and once I realized how badly I had to spend some money to make it a safe shooter again. 4 pound Bubba trigger with hammer follow turned into a safe 4 pound trigger.

No store wants it despite the work-over because it was modified so much so for now I keep it and take it out to shoot every now and then, but it’s not particularly fun. New sights might help but I’m not Motivated to do anything with it right now. Barrel may also be towards the end of its life or just not particularly good. Or judging by other issues found from prior hacks there may not be the best fitment between barrel, bushing and slide. Won’t group at 25 anything close to like the Kimber does no matter what I do. Seems to have been set up mainly for 7 or 10 yard speed shooting.

Parkerized SA Mil Spec Defender in 45. Home Defense gun, does the job and gets taken out occasionally to cycle through old SD ammo and blast some 45.

I do not CC any 1911s and only do Govt models. I would probably like another 9mm from the Springfield line at some point if I can find a way to dump the Colt for even just a couple hundred as someone’s Next project.

I am debating adding something in the 600 dollar range since I have accumulated a ton of 45 cal and 9 mil 1911 magazines. I have big piles of double stack Glock mags, AR and 1911 govt mags and trying to add more guns that can use them rather than more platforms that require a separate pot of mags. Can’t figure out what I want.

TISAs? Remington R1? Maybe 9 mil? Rock in 9 or 45?

    Any thoughts?

My Springfield Mil-Spec “Defender Series” was about $500 when I bought it before Covid hit. Not sure what they go for now, though. But they’re supposedly made in the US and use a forged frame and slide.

There’s a few things I don’t love about it, but for the most part, the Browning 40 High Power is my 1911 of choice. Not ideal for concealed carry (not that I can do that anymore given where I live now), but an all around outstanding gun.

    You guys have good taste!

    Couple of Springfield Armory Loaded's

Parkerized is the traditional .45 of course, and the stainless is 9mm. Some of y'all might think a 1911 in 9mm is blasphemy, but man it's a fun shooter. (and not as many coins fly outta' the barrel every time you squeeze the trigger)

    Not a 1911 lover, but I went thru a 9mm 1911 phase years ago.
In the end, I didn't find them that comfortable to shoot or EDC.
These have all been sold years ago, but since I'm stuck at home and bored, I'll share them with y'all.

That stated, I still get a hankering to buy another one, in 45ACP just to have one.
I've got a bunch of 45 ammo and only a Glock 21 to run it in.

This was back in the day when I would sometimes buy a firearm, mod it, get bored with it, sell it, buy something else, and repeat.
It was a bad habit with wasn't financially smart.

I'll list them separately so as not to make one long post.

It started with an RIA Tactical 9mm.

    101_0808_b2b68bd3d167cd9369da4187051a4c3b06e7de33.jpg

    Only mod was VZ grips

    Kimber CDP Ultra

    wilsonmag1_4c737fcc24f69f3bebf0b353eed5d3aa2b434dda.jpg

Had it modded by Todd at Customized Creationz
Frame refinish, rounded the butt (my main problem with 1911s), recessed the slide stop, single side thumb safety, WC type grips (can't remember who made them)
Also a custom holster and mag carrier made by K&D holster

A few months later Springfield came out with the EMP.
It was advertised as being designed around the 9mm round.
I fell for the hype, sold the Kimber (I should have kept it), and bought the EMP.

    old1_0526445a54ae06a37cca788ee2d7eb109b201dd9.jpg101_0324_a6931c9d859290844b4b574c9af5cc4057bbd002.jpg

This time I had the Springfield Armory Custom Shop do the mods.
Nickel Teflon everything, round the butt, crown the muzzle, single side thumb safety, solid trigger, 10-8 rear and gold bead front sight, deburred the hammer, and serrated and undercut the front strap.
Also had Logman from another forum mod the 2 of the mags for EDC, he remade the base to be flush although I lost a round per mag in the process.
    VZ grip screws....

Fortunately, it fit perfectly in my existing holster and I carried it for a few months.
I then realized single-action carry just wasn't for me, I felt the need for some slack in the trigger if I was ever in a self-defense situation.
A man's got to know his limitations..
One of the few modded pistols I actually made money on when I sold it.

Then, one of the finest firearms I've ever owned.
I only sold it because I wanted something else more.
I don't even remember what that something else was..
Probably the most accurate firearm I've owned, only second to my 1988 WG Sig P226.

    Dan Wesson Guardian 9mm
The only mods to it were Esmeralda grips and a couple of Wilson Combat mags.
The fit and finish on this gun was flawless.
    Factory bobtailed, it was perfect.

Looking back I should have kept the Kimber and the Dan Wesson, just to have in my collection.
But back then, I didn't own safe queens, I shot everything I had.

I have a feeling I'll end up with a 45ACP 1911 before everything is said and done.
I'd really like to have an older WWII 1911 pistol in decent shape.
