Wanted to know your opinions on the condition on this timing belt. Am I in the unsafe to drive category? I am unsure as to when it was done last (which makes me want to have I done) Carfax says last was 30k miles and I am at 160k which is like 30k+ over.

It looks pretty crunchy to me. When was the last one done? My vote is as soon as possible.

I concur, definitely cracks there. I wouldn't really be driving on that much.

I can infer that a visual inspection is not adequate, because my buells belt, that is exposed to uv regualrly was in better shape than some pics of toyota broken belts, when it broke. When it does break, throw it in neutal instead of hammering on the gas. You'll probably feel it.

Peace of mind is worth it. My 40k-mile belt looked brand new at 23 years old when I changed it.

I’m planning on having it done asap and will avoid driving on it until then. I’m not sure when it was last done.

My guess is 700-1200 at a shop? Can anyone back that estimate up?

Varies from location to location. Here in ATL, dealerships are charging $1,700 on average for the full monte. I'd need to dig back thru my posts to see what the three dealers I checked in with wanted, I want to say it was a spread from $1,400-2,100 or some crap. The well-known specialty shop wanted $1,500 to do TB + WP + tensioners + any pulleys. I've heard of people getting it done as cheap as $1,100 north of the city at a reputable Toyota-focussed shop.

The dealership charged me $900 for timing belt and water pump in 2017. I can't imagine what they charge now.

I had my timing belt changed in March of this year. I received quotes from 2 Toyota Dealers of $1,740 and $1,800 - not including tax. I found a trusted local shop who did it for $1,394 Tax included.

I had a local shop do the Aisin Timing Belt/Water pump kit with tensioner, felpro valve cover gaskets, and the oil pump cooler o ring for $1200 about 6 months ago. They did forget to attach the A/C compressor ground wire which they did later for no charge.

30,000 miles over should of been all you needed to know.

    Change it.
