I have a 2001 Tundra, and installed LED headlights with resistors. Great, everything worked. I then got LED fog lights with resistors and they will not work properly. When i turn on the fog lights, the high beams go on?

Weird, wondering if anyone else has dealt with this and how to fix it. I really want to run my fog lights and not have the high beams on.
    Thank you in advance,
    Mohammad

Hi and welcome. Can you narrow down the problem? Unplug each fog light separately and try the fogs again. Does it occur with only the left or right in? What about both out?

Well, i put in the resistors on the fog lights (stock fog lights just LED bulbs) and i can use the low beams no problem. But when i turn on the fog lights, the high beams go on. When i turn on the high beams the fog lights go out as they should? I am flummoxed?

i really like the LED fog lights and want them to work.

I had heard from another Tundra owner that the fog lights do not need to have a resistor. I will try that this weekend when i got some time.

    Thank you for your help,
    Mohammad

    Hello HR Revolution,
So are you saying i need only one resistor on the headlights and one resistor on the fog lights? Currently i have two resistors, one on each of the the headlights and two resistors, one on each of the fog lights.
Please clear this up for me.

    Thank you,
    Mohammad

Could you send a picture of the resistors you have now?

Sounds good! I’d be interested to see which ones you have now, but I’m quite confident that resistor harness above would tackle the issue at hand.

So what are your thoughts on this set up? is this why i am having issues with the high beams etc? what do you suggest?

    thank you,

Just wondering why you had resistors on the fog lights? I had this issue with my ‘03, but had no resistors on the headlight bulbs...I put resistors on the headlights and all was fine.

Anyone who has swapped their headlights to Leds have an answer for the resistor thing? Is it one resistor total or per headlight? I'm planning on swapping mine as well. Just did the headlights and it works well enough but I did not get resistors as I was lead to believe they would be fine without... But when I turn the high beams on, they work, but no indicator on the dash. Also my fog lights will no longer turn on :/

Secondly, Anyone know a good replacement for the rubber seal? The shape of the OEM one is not able to house the led bulb with the heat sync on it.

Each bulb will need an in-line resistor pack in order for fog lights and high beam indicator to work. These bulbs don’t put out enough voltage, so it throws things off with the PCM. I just contacted the company I bought them on Amazon from, and they sent me them for free. Rubber gaskets might be and OEM thing, or possibly a plumbing supply store for a large o-ring type gasket?

If I got LED fogs, do you think I need resistors there as well, or did you only replace the main headlights? Thanks for the help, gonna get the resistors!

I got my LED fogs from SuperBrightLEDS.com. No resistors were needed. Resistors were only needed on the headlight bulbs in order to run the fogs.
SuperBright had a good price, bulbs were quality, with a 3 yr warranty. Thought one burnt out, so I emailed them....they sent a return label ASAP. Turned out a rough road had made the bulb come out of the housing. Did license plate lights and reverse lights and dome lights with bulbs from their site. All still working very well.

I replaced my headlights and fog lights with LED. I had the same problem. No fog lights & no high beam indicator. When I turn fog lights on ... the high beams come on but still no fog lights or indicator. I place a resistor on one headlight with NO change ... I placed a second resistor on other headlight with NO change. So recap a resister on both headlights did not fix my light problem. Maybe I’ll try resisters on fog lights too.

I am on this forum because, like everyone else, I installed LEDs and now my fogs won't work. High beam still works but high beam will turn in with the dog light switch too, but no high beam indicator light on the dash.
I found some other forums and found this explanation, although it was under a 2nd gen tundra, I'm pretty sure it's the same thing happening with our first gens as well.

    Overview of Factory Fog Lights
The Factory Fog Light Switch, mounted on the stalk, does not turn the Fog Lights “On”.
Instead, when you turn this switch “On” it makes a “Request”, (via a ground signal) to
the Main Body ECU to turn the Fog Lights “On”.
The Main Body ECU then decides, based on a set of rules, if it will supply a ground to
the Fog Light Relay “coil”, and/or if it will supply +12 volts to the other side of the Fog
    Light Relay “coil”.
The Main Body ECU must supply both a “ground” and a “voltage” at the same time, for
the fog lights to turn “On”.
The “rules” which the MB-ECU applies when you “request” the Fog Lights to be turned
    “On” are as follows:
    -
Fog Lights cannot be turned on by themselves
    -
Headlights Lights must be “On” for Fog Lights to turn “On”.
    -
High Beam Headlights “On” cause Fog Lights to “Turn Off”

From what I have read, you can put one inline resistor on the driver's side headlight and it should help to return normal function. Or you can buy a plug and play resistor that plugs inline behind the led headlight bulb on the driver's side and that seems to have worked for several guys as well.

    https://www.superbrightleds.com/moreinfo/flashers-load-resistors/motorcycle-headlight-load-resistor-h4-led-headlight-bulbs/2932/6284

Here is a website for one design of them that are plug and play. This is a website for another forum website (please don't be angry with me moderators, I'm only trying to share information I have found for the greater good of this group!) And this forum has a fog light mod instructions to fix it as well. Note, it was made back in 2003, so I'm not sure how accurate it is or if it's still relevant, but it could be worth trying.

I will be trying this fog light mod and will report back to let you know if it works. I also have led fogs so I'm hoping it will work independently from the low beams, but we will see...

Last note: the rubber seals. I simply cut the center hole slightly bigger so it could fit around the rear heatsink of the led headlight. Don't cut it so big that it won't seal afterwards, but just enough so you still have to stretch it a little bit to move it down closer to the top of the heatsink. That way, it will allow the heat sink to still be able to put off heat, or the fans to still move air, but it will seal enough to prevent water from entering the housing. I have done this on 4 or 5 different vehicles with this same rear seal to fit LEDs and it always works perfect. Just go easy and cut a little at a time and test it each time until you get the perfect diameter hole for your led. Now if you want to remove the LEDs and revert back to stock, you can find plenty of these rear seals in your local salvage yard. They are the exact same size and style seals that you can find in most hondas, from around 2000 and newer (a 2002-2006 cr-v I know for a fact has the exact same size rear headlight seal, so other honda models might too like the oddesy, pilot, and maybe accord?)

I have 4 resistors, one for each headlight & fog light. Same problem with or without resistors. No fog lights & high beam when the fog light switch is pushed on. I’ve made every configuration with the resistors on different light(s) and back & forth. Still no difference. I’m about to put my old headlights & fog light bulbs back in my truck & trash the LEDs. I like them but I like fog lights that work & high beam indicator. “Frustrated” is the nice way to put it. EF5F8A35-0CB3-4974-BC1F-4D74B84F6F0C.jpg

I've heard from 4 people to only use 1 on the head lights and all issues go away. It's true for me. I've seen one other person say they needed two. I don't know if that's because of year difference or what. I got my resistor from super bright led where I also got my head lights and it looks much different than yours. But not sure if you didn't get your lights from them as well.

Bought High Dolla PerfectFit SuperNovas Fogs ($129) and put them in Fog Assys. All worked well. Still had Halogen Bulbs in the Headlights.

A few months later, I installed LED Headlamp Bulbs and they worked great with no issues.

Conclusion: I think the Secret Sauce is in the High Dolla Fog Bulbs. A good Fog Bulb will prevent the Bad Mojo without the use of Resistors.
