Just looked at a 2005 Tundra Limited 4x4 with 61k, looks quite clean no rust only the ABS unit was, according to the owner it is stock, located directly on the brake master cylinder, wondering if anybody can confirm this…until now I have only seen the ABS unit being located on the right side of the engine bay…

So this truck has an uncommon setup. This is a truck equipped with vehicle stability control and very likely an uncommon auto-LSD setup. This setup is rare and can get expensive when it goes out.

This is a hydro-assist brake booster, rather than a vacuum-assist brake booster. Note how the master cylinder doesn't have the round booster behind it. You've likely seen that round booster on the other Tundras that have the ABS on the other side of the engine bay.

Here's a diagram that shows the entire hydro-assist booster/ master cylinder that this truck has (thank you to @Roman for the diagrams):

Here's the vacuum-assist brake booster setup:

Nice looking truck and hopefully it's in better shape than the 2 you posted about in 20 and 21 :eek2:

Yeah, I mean, that's basically the mileage my truck had on it when I picked it up a couple few years back. Just based on how much greif I've seen VSC and that master cylinder (separately) cause on here, I'm not sure I'd buy it.

That master cylinder because it's expensive as hell to repair and discontinued IIRC, and I haven't seen anyone swap without complaining of mushy pedal after.
VSC because the sensor typically mid-vehicle has flaked out and caused weird braking issues, and that part is also discontinued.

don't get me wrong, if they were selling for $12k or something, I'd buy it. But something tells me they're probably asking twice that. And with those ugly ass nerf bars and wheel/tires, that's a hard no from me.

Yes, it doesn't have any frame rust and the overall shape is definitely better, plus with a mileage of 61k, it is the right candidate...

I hear you, of course the steps will come off and those wheels... already have 17"s off an Fj cruiser, tires maybe 285/70 17. Forgot to mention that it has TRD calipers, I'll load up more detailed pictures of it soon. Test drive today...

Nice. The mushy pedal is an issue I’m trying to help a friend fix right now. He told me he did the normal ABS setup and right now having an issue with “decel sensor” error code. Found that the ABS wire harness he put on doesn’t have the pins on the connector for the decel sensor..although I can see that the shielded wire goes through firewall. Going to have to remove dash to find it behind there somewhere. Notice the 2 connectors and how one is missing Yellow, Blue, Green in the correct pin locations.
