Hello - I recently got a 2006 and it seems like I need lower control arm bushings. I asked a mechanic I know about repairing it and he said that you can't buy the sleeves for the bushings and I would need to buy new control arms. Is this accurate ? Any advice would be much appreciated.

    Thanks

I had a shop press in new oem bushings when I installed the new suspension. It can be done but depending on rust, it’s easier and cheaper to buy aftermarket arms with bushings.

I had my front end rebuilt last year and I bought new OEM lower control arms as it made economic sense even though it cost $ instead of having them pressed in. Mine were rusty a bit and needed cutting off.

Your truck will now be able to have a proper alignment with new cam bolts. The OEM bolts are stupid expensive and I went with what the shop recco’d. Not sure of the brand, but they like using them and allows a better precise full alignment at 70% less than OEM.

I sure wish there was a 2005-06 Tundra LCA Bushing Remove/Replace Video available with even slightly rusty Cam Sleeves cut off to press out. I am eating crap right now trying to get mine out of one. Using Heat and Bearing separator on 20 ton HF Press tomorrow but am almost over it. I have already bought all the replace parts but now desperate enuf to just get some new with bushings already in.
    It is kicking my ass!

I wrote this earlier without realizing the Timmy the Toyota Toolman video on this did cover exactly what I was asking for...

I did a ton a research before having someone else rebuild my front end. Just bought new LCA’s and called it a day. Many others here that love doing suspension work (which I despise) even say its best to buy new arms with the bushings already pressed in. I bought new OEM arms from Toyota and had a shop install. Pricey, but I’m not in hurtsville like you right now! :D

Try this video. Tim does great vids on Toyota Trucks, usually 4runners but the process is the same

@Xsnrg2006 if you cut the shoulder of the bushing assembly off with a sawzall you should then be able to press the bushing out. If not, then cut the bushing in a circular way around the inner sleeve. Once that's out CAREFULLY cut into the outer sleeve in two spots and chisel that thing out. Then clean the path and press your new bushings in.

Or give up and buy new arms. Up to you.

I thank you all for the advice. I have been subscribed to Timmy's Channel for a while and agree he is the best tutorial guy across the board. I screwed up and while I had a job did not buy everything he recommends, but now have learned the hard way that cutting out and replacing with new is the way to go.
The things that are discovered on 15 yr old Tundras when dissembling an entire front end even when you think you have all the replacement parts and tools is that usually you don't. Specialty deep exact receiving/pressing sleeves(MATCO set is limited), 5-10 ton bottle jacks, extra large vice, my missing 16" Channel Lock pliers(liberated from me at a gig...), etc and so on.
Found the main thru bolt(7 1/4" by 5/8" D) to my Steering rack is bent from some hellacious off road hit and cannot be removed, so I have to get to Toyota twice, once to order/pay then pick up a couple days later, and it is hard to find a ride with the Rona freaking everyone out. I did receive my 6 Diablo Carbide Tip Sawsall blades so can cut stuff! Stuck on driver side until that is resolved. Fortunately having all else broken down and out/out of the way as possible gives access to it all. Plus I have LOTS of time... Unfortunately am on fumes fund wise, no vehicle, no job(Union Stagehand, and ALL Theaters and Venues are CLOSED for several months at least). At least everything once done should get me another 100K easy, and now I have learned to not wait to do several important fixes until it is too late for easy R&R.
So forgive me spitting out my Life Story, but gotta say that without the Learned and Great Helpfulness of these Tundra Forums' Members I couldn't have even gotten this far!
I will update as soon as Progress returns, but in the meanwhile going now to order the Driver Side LCA so that I can hopefully overcome my own overconfidence and under-preparedness.
May my lessons prove to help anyone else from incurring the many damning obstacles I have encountered.
Afterall, that is why We All are looking out for each other the best We can.
    Thanks to All Again.

I do so appreciate that for All of my Brothers and Sisters Nation/Worldwide that are SOL until then for the most part. Am considering other jobs I can do Independently or for hire, but after nearly 40 years in biz, not looking forward to a career change. We have to do what it takes in life of course so...
Maybe I can start specializing in LCA Bushing Replacement!! LOL
Thanks again for the Best Wishes PHM.

That is exactly what I did!
I got both cams off and out to remove driver side this evening, no cutting.
There is enuf play that an glad to have ordered both.
Plus the bent Main Steering rack mount bolt is on the way as well.
The Diablo Carbon Blade took it out in 15 seconds.

Its gotta be all downhill from here...

Depends on your definition of ‘downhill’.

Did you already sell off your bushings you didn’t use? What are you trying to get for them?
