Going to list my dads 2006 Tundra Crew cab, 4x4, V8, SR5, 101,000 miles. Truck had catalytic converter theft shield. Elderly dad owned it since new. Texas truck, never modified, no rust, everything works, no lights, ect. I have a 2023 allocated and dealer offer of 10k on trade. The timing belt and water pump service was done. All fluids changed regularly. Only issues are bumpers have dings from my pops. The transmission wiring harness was changed due to a pin throwing off the sensor (common issue) and pops left the 4wd hi engaged and messed up the front differential carrier bearing. I had mechanic put another front differential on and the 4wd hi engages but seems geared low (maybe my imagination, IDK). Thoughts on trade offer?

$10k on trade is pretty damn good. I'd be shocked if that would sell here in ATL for $10k. I'm sure the dealer will turn around and sell for $15k-18k.

Edit: Actually, it is 4WD, maybe you could squeeze a couple grand out of it on private local sale, I could see $12-13k. If you were to list on eBay, I could see you getting upwards of $15k-18k, maybe more?

Thank you. I was thinking the trade amount was fair considering I’m buying a 23 Tundra at MSRP. Only bad thing is the Tundea has a couple items I didn’t want (traffic camera and console safe).

shifty is right on about price. If you don't mind...what part of Texas are you in? I'm in Guadalupe County and may be interested in taking off your hands.

I am in Rockwall, just east of Dallas. We have a place in New Braunfels I get to from time to time. I can shoot a video or FaceTime if you are interested.

Y'all make it happen! I'd always rather sell a vehicle to another Tundra bro than let a dealer mark up something to absurd amounts.

All the paint needs is a little polish to get that single-stage white shining. I had to do it with mine also.

plug the truck info, option on edmunds and kbb and they will give you trade in, private sell and retail figures based on your area. Great tools to get you in the ballpark.

Definitely a clean looking truck. Here in the Rocky Mountains the first gens command a higher price. My '05 with a dented bumper and roof with over 200k miles was $10K. So, depending on the demand I'd say you can ask around $10-14k for it. I wouldn't trade it into a dealer, UNLESS they give you at least $10K for it--if not more.

@lrtexasman I am really temped...I have nearly the same truck that I bought new in 07, but in 2WD. Gave it to my 17 yo son as his first truck this year. Looking at colleges now for him, and Holy Crap! I knew it was going to be expensive, but not this much. Considering selling my '16 and going back to 1GT, then adding profits to college fund. One of my concerns though is I have a pretty large Travel Trailer that I pull with the '16, and I know the 06 will not pull it (7K lbs dry). Anyways, for now this is just a thought, sorry if I jumped too soon and made it seem like I was ready to pull the trigger right now. I will say, if you were in New Braunsfels sometime soon, hit me up, I would love to see it in person if it's still available.

Sounds great! That's pretty much my local area, S.A-New Braunfels-Seguin. I'll reach out to you early on that week.

'Dad Trucks' are usually a safe bet.
Not abused, serviced on time, no stupid mods.
That truck would be listed on CL for $15-16K here in So Cal based on the low mileage, clean interior/exterior.

    Thanks for posting an update.

That’s surprising they are giving you that much trade on it. Trades are always a balancing act though.

Stealership had my 1st Gen on-lot and I'm guessing it was a similar trade-in situation for them. Trade-in for a newer Tundra. But I milked the hell out of them.

The car I traded-in was Bluebook'd around $7.5k at the time, two accidents, and had frame damage repaired, but all repair work done by a Toyota dealership. I was adamant to pay with only slush cash I'd tucked away in a checking acct, so I pushed the hell out of them to give me ~$12k ($11,764.14) on trade-in to get me there. Took lots of pushing, but I had a lot in my favor ... condition of the exterior was the biggie, truck had heavily chalked paint, detached tag light, fogged headlights, a couple of rusty scrapes on the rear bed corner, and leather rips in the driver seat upper/lower bolsters to help negotiate things down. they hadn't done shit to the truck to make it look nicer. At the time, pre-pandemic, it probably wasn't worth the $16k they were listing, but what I ended up getting them down to made it a steal back then.

Yea. Texas and the south east in general is not as good of a market as the west coast for selling but better for buying, lol. A clean 4x4 GM square body here pulls more than a Toyota.

Never understood that, either. When you consider the lifespan is radically different. A late 90s C1500 is what put the slush money in my checking account. It was low mile and in shit shape in comparison. Slipping transmission. Leaks into the cab damaging the passenger floorboord. Mildew as a result. Total joke.

    Meh.
