I have a 2007 4x4 5.7 with 180k miles. I have owned it for about 2 years and have put about 4k miles on it. I am planning to do a trans service on it and in my search for a trans filter and pan gasket kit it seems that there are 2 different gaskets depending on when the truck was built. Anyone with an 07 know what I'm talking about? Also, I have read conflicting info on whether it's recommended to pull the pan and replace the filter. I don't want to create any problems but I would like to change the filter as long as it doesn't become more of a headache than its worth.

Your door sticker will tell you which transmission you have.
Honestly I would go to the dealer and give them your vin. They will get you the correct gasket and filter. I think I paid less than $40 for both.

If you are changing the gasket the filter will be right there in your face once you drop the pan.
Drain the pan, pull the pan, replace filter, bolt up pan with new gasket, refill transmission.

I have the AB60F transmission. When I was searching for a pan gasket I saw 2 different gaskets. Rock Auto shows one that has 12 bolt holes but says it's for Trucks built from April 2007 and newer. The other gasket has 20 bolt holes which I know won't fit. I have been doing more research online and crawled under the truck and have figured out the correct gasket is the one with 12 bolt holes. I just got the impression that there must have been a change in gaskets at some point. And yes , I am going to change the filter. That's why am pulling the pan.

Not sure where you are located but you might regret trying to remove the pan. Some of the screws holding it in place stick out above the aluminum. If they are rusted they will snap leaving you with a much bigger job. If you do it I would replace them with stainless steel screws (easily sourced at the local hardware store).

Fair point. Steel on aluminum tends to rust more easily.
I had one break because my impact got away from me.
Anti-seize would be best if rust is a concern.

Good point. I crawled under the truck a couple days ago to see how many bolts I could get to come loose and I got all but 3 or 4 of them. I sprayed down all the bolts with some penetrating oil and will try to get the remaining bolts to come loose. If I can't I will likely just leave the pan and filter be and just be happy with doing a fluid exchange.

FYI.. our tranny is a sealed setup and after filling and before sealing it off make sure the ambient temp is per Yota's temp specs....

Yep, read all about the procedure on filling it properly. Doesn't sound too bad.

It isn’t but, some people like to make a big deal about it.
