I have a 2007 Tundra 5.7L doublecab. My speakers do not have the little JBL logo on them. It has the original radio with 6 disk changer in it.

I am not very knowledgeable with audio stuff. I have tried reading through threads, and I am more confused that I was before. I will be using my truck to pull a travel trailer, and thought that it would make the experience easier if I had a touchscreen radio display with AndroidAuto, so I wouldn't be looking at my phone for map info.

And that, my friends, is the limit of what I know.

Can anyone tell me, like I am 7, what I need? (looking to keep it at around $500). Do I need a separate amp? If so, I am not including that in my budget. Also , how many watts of an amp do I need? I am not looking to blast music through the neighborhood.

    TIA.

You need to figure out if your radio/HU (the head unit) has an internal or external/separate amplifier.
Perhaps someone with a truck similar to yours can help you with that.
    I've only owned 2005 and 2014 Tundras.

You can do this in steps, first swap the HU/radio and see/listen to how that sounds.
That may be all you want.

If you want more, then proceed to replace the speakers.
Granted your speakers are 16 years old and made for the lower watt output of the OEM radio.
HU and speakers may be all you need.

If you want more, install an aftermarket amp.
Decide if you want a 4-channel amp (to power just the door speakers) or a 5-channel amp (door speakers plus a subwoofer).

But start with replacing the HU.
Make sure it has wireless AndroidAuto, you can run Waze or Google maps and have it on the screen for navigation.

Do you have steering wheel radio controls?
If so you'll need something like an iDatalink Maestro to retain these controls with the new HU.

I would get on the Crutchfield website and shop around.
Check out prices, HU features, read reviews, etc.
Their customer service is very helpful and they have a great return policy.
They can also prewire your stuff to make it plug-and-play.
Not sure about the Maestro, but they can prewire your HU.

I'd try to stick with Kenwood or Pioneer radios, but some here have been happy with their Boss radios.

Crutchfield: Car Stereo and Audio, Speakers, Home Theater, Pro Audio, TVs

    You can do this.
There is plenty of members here that will help you out..

    Good luck..

I do not have steering wheel controls. If I have an amp where would it be? Under the passenger seat?

Also this is an SR5. Seems like that matters.

OME Nitrocharger/2612 (front), Bilstein 5100s (rear). Vanguard roll bar modified (by me) to fit over Patriot Stealth retractable tonneau. Aftermarket halo headlights with HID, various LED bulb replacements. 17" Fuel Blitz wheels with some 33" Nitto terra grapplers. Hoodscoop, nfab nerfbars, Bushwacker flares. No-name aftermarket grille, led fender extensions. Black Horse bambi-basher. Various offroad lights.
You can get chinese headunits with gps, carplay/auto, wireless blah blah blah... starting around a 100$. They work fine. Decent American brands work better (faster/more responsive(better chipsets)), but $$$. As long as your headunit wasnt jbl, you should be fine, if it is, your door speaker functionality will be... odd. When I was playing around with various Chinesium headunits awhile back, saw some with addon SWC and/or remotes, always nice to have.

I have a custom made sub enclosure for an 07 doublecab but I'm in California. Would love to give it a new home. I used 2 alpine type R 8's and it sounded excellent with the right power. Good luck on your build.
