I'll cut to the chase. I'm looking for a truck. There's a 2008 Tundra Limited double cab 4x4 with 190k for $12,500. Haven't had a chance to drive it but it looks great. Obviously I'm concerned about the miles. Not sure if there's service records but it's had 4 owners. Should I go for it? (Sorry for the dumb question) Thanks in advance!

If it is white, I would say go for it. Otherwise wait until you can find one in white. Better mpg, more horsepower and increased reliability along with higher resale value.

IMHO it "may" be worth it. Go to your nearest dealer...give the service manager the vin.....check for any reported history. Have a mechanic you can trust to check it out. Car Fox...?? 190K isn't that bad depending on overall condition and history........You can have one bad owner and maybe 4 real good owners. just sayin.....

I currently have an 05 Envoy with 122k that I was going to trade in. We already have our "family cruiser" for trips (2015 Journey). I was banking on the Tundra being in better shape than my Envoy but who knows lol. Thanks for the tips everyone!

Take the "Plat" for a test drive. Look it over real good. Check the frame for any rust. Check for leaks around the cam towers/covers. Actually get on your butt and crawl underneath and take a real good look. Wear some old jeans and a tee.

Be sure the warranty/recall work has been completed. Those little smog pumps are pricey and they only replace them once. Up to 150,000 miles warranty I believe. Does the 4x4 engage correctly.

Could be a decent truck, need to access overall condition and how well it was taken care of.

Mileage is not awful, question is how many miles a year will you put on it? 10k maybe doable, 20k not so much.

Have a mechanic take a look at it.

$1-2k (or more) off that price might might make it more appealing.

That was my original budget, 12-13k and I kept on finding beat to crap/wrecked junk or tons of miles, or a combination of all 3. I did find a black/black double cab/2wd 2008 or 2009 with 130k, dealer asking $12k, but it had the 4.7 V8 and I wasn't 100% sure if the timing belt was done. Nice clean truck, would have bought it if it had the 5.7 V8. That was the only thing I found worth buying after looking for a month in that price range.

Up your budget to 15-20k, you will find a lot nicer trucks with a lot less miles on them. Picked up my 2011 double cab, 4wd, 56k miles, extra clean, never seen salty roads for $20,500 out the door.

If it passes a thorough all inclusive inspection and has the 5.7L, it's worth about $11k.
