I purchased a 2013 double cab with the 4.6L engine in November with 49K miles. I've been using fuelly.com to track my mileage, which has averaged 13.2 mpg. I just filled up today and my mileage came out at 11.6 mpg. Should I be concerned about this low mileage? This is my first truck so I have little first-hand experience with it. Many thanks.

If your truck is stock, the mpg seems pretty low, even with a cap on. If your truck is lifted with heavy tires, the mpg will go down quickly. On top of that, if you have heavy foot, then all bets are off.

Definitely not a heavy foot. I feel like I'm driving lightly because of the mileage. Tires are 285/65R18 and put on by the dealer (it was a trade-in). It went through a whole dealer check. Does have a cap. I don't think it's lifted.

285/65/18 is probably heavier tires than stock. But your mpg seems pretty low especially if it's not lifted.

Worth a shot. Disconnect your battery for about 1/2 hour (this resets your ecu in your truck). Then drive very gingerly for about a week or so and see if mpg goes up .

(Are you checking your mpg by mpg meter? If so, are you resetting it?)

I'm calculating mpg based on odometer reading and gallons of fuel added at fill up. I don't think it's lifted. See pic. I'll try the ecu reset.

    That is low mpg for a stock 4.6 v8. I have a lifted 2013 5.7 v8 and I get 14-16 mpg.It may need a tune up. I run 305/55/20 nitto ridge grapplers also and have 5.30 gears!

You're getting what my lifted 5.7 on 35s is getting. Something is not right.

Just around town my 2012 4.6 double cab w/bed cover gets about 14mpg. On the highway I get about 17-18. Towing my 20ft enclosed car hauler I get 9mpg. Your issue could also be winter mix gas. Typically it gets worse mileage than summer mix.

    Welcome!
As far as mpg, I get 13-14 in my 4.6L 2010 towing my boat or snowmobile trailer. 16-17 with just the truck 75% highway. Something is not right unless you are doing primarily city stop & start driving. I have the Stock 18" rims and Michelin tires. Make sure your tire pressure is correct. Not sure if your rims/tires would drop mpg that much. Cold weather and crappy gas can affect mpg but still sounds like yours is way down from where it should be unless it's all city stop and start.

Since I posted this I did disconnect the negative terminal to reset the ECU. I let it run down to half a tank and mpg shot up to 15.5! Next half tank it went to 14.5. Last half tank it was 12.6. I tried the dealer (Hyannis Toyota) and they said that there is really nothing to be done. That it's the around-town driving, the winter cold and other factors. With the fancy computer controlled engine this all falls into "normal."
