2014 1794 Edition truck, where can I mount a trailer brake controller that's not near my knees?

    Thread title says it all.

Stock truck with 3" front level and 1.75 rear lift.
Amp Powerstep PnP running boards plugged into OBD port.

I need a trailer brake controller, I have to get a trailer and move, long story.....

However, every one I have ever seen is mounted on the drivers' lower dash near our knees.

I really do NOT want anything down there for my knees to hit.
I don't want any clutter of any kind down there.

Where else can/do people mount these ugly things?

Please let me know if there are reasonable options.

    Thanks!

Looks like this guy added an OEM brake controller to his 2015 1794:

Not sure it that can be done for the 2014 as well? Hopefully as I am picking up a 2014 and I'm hoping to do this mod.

I think 2014-2017 should all be the same.

Researching on this forum, sadly it looks like only 2015+ of course haha. Apparently different wiring in the 2014 and it will not/does not integrate with the onboard dash information center. Dang it.

you might give this one a look. I have it on my trailer and it works well for me. The OEM
    controller on my truck sucks…..

So I cannot PnP retrofit a 2015+ dash bezel and factory brake controller into my 2014 1794?

I read we have the plug but it's over by the kick panel, is it a different plug or it won't reach this location?

I was about to pull the trigger on this setup, otherwise I will have to buy the aftermarket bezel and tek P3 unit which is better (I guess) but still sticks out more than I like and is not stock which rubs me the wrong way.
Either which way this is all rather overpriced just for a trailer brake controller.
Going to cost me between $200-300 for a decades old common feature on a truck.

But I need it for like 1 trip to move a few states, and maybe once more a year later to move to someplace else.
Or if I ever get a home and a boat lol.

yeah from i've read is 2015 plus. Saw there is a plug in the kick panel, but not sure if it's the same one that you find on the right side under the 3 buttons. I will have to check this out myself but will report back when i get a chance.

i do have a trailer brake controller from my tacoma already that i can just move over, so that's fine with me too although i'd love the oem factory integrated unit.

Yea I am seeing the same info, no go for pre 2015 models, our plug is on the kick panel and is different.

I am leaning strongly towards the Tekonsha P3 with the replacement tow/haul dash plate to give it a factory look and keep it WELL away from my knees for safety.
The downside it the total cost is going to be just over $266 which is highway robbery to say the least.
The only factory IBC's I have found are over $300 just for the controller anyway, let alone the dash plate that it goes it.

I just HATE anything non factory sticking out of my dash anywhere, especially in the knee area, that's huge no no in my book.

Just ordered from ebay and Amazon, total is $238

I totally agree re: non-oem. And yeah, I think I will go the same route as your re: the face place for a more integrated look. Thanks for the response.

All done and installed, looks factory minus the sticking out part.

I will say this is now directly in front of my right knee.
    Not totally happy with this....
If I slide into the dash during a crash my right knee will be destroyed for sure.

Oh well at least it's a clean looking install.

Was the plug in the drivers side kick panel and did you end up buying that OEM looking housing to mount it? Thanks @op.
