Ok, so I get it. This forum LOVES the Bilstein 5100s, Fox 2.0s and countless other suspension that really performs well off-road or levels the truck out. I'm leaning toward the 4600.

My 14 Platinum has 120k miles and is in need of new suspension. However, my truck is a pavement princess. I'm not interested in lifting or leveling it, I enjoy the 20" wheels, and I have no plans of taking it off-road more than around my home.

Does anybody have suggestions for a softer suspension setup that isn't as stiff as the Bilstein stuff? I'm also not looking to break the bank with something crazy adjustable. I just want a good OEM comparable shock and strut/coilover.

    Thanks!

I went with the 4600s. Was thinking about KYB Gas-A-Just as well, but decided to give the 4600s a fighting chance. In case there is anybody else out there like me, I will post an update once they're installed and I put around 1k miles on them.

I haven't installed them yet, just ordered them. I'll update once they're installed and I've driven some miles on them.

4600s will be a good choice mainly for the reason you won't be changing spring rates or adding preload to the spring like the 5100 does. Also switching to 18" wheels and a P rated tire will make the truck very soft if you decide you want a little more. Handling through corners is somewhat compromised due to the added sidewall flex on the smaller wheels though.

I am hoping they ride smoothly. I have found that I'm an outlier when it comes to looking for suspension recommendations, but figured it can't be worse than the stock shocks currently on the truck with 120k miles. I'm a sucker for the 20" wheels, but may consider moving to the 18" wheels when I need tires. I still have a year or two for that, but I'm sure 18" tires will also come with more options and be less expensive than 20".

    Ah someone talking my language.

I went with the 6112 Bilsteins up front and went one size larger in tire size (Toyo AT IIs ) and while I like the look, I don’t really care for the ride and characteristics.

Anyway, I kept my stock Bilsteins and I am considering going back to stock set up.

Could you just replace with OEM?

    Update with the 4600s.

What a night and day difference. I suppose I didn't realize how worn my shocks were. The 4600s absorb bumps while also providing a firmer ride. Handling is definitely improved, towing feels good. I hope they soften just a tad over the next few thousand miles, but overall I'm happy. I bought them on shocksurplus.com for under $400 and paid a local shop $280 to install the fronts and new top hats.

That is really good information, thanks for the feedback. I have been searching and doing research for the 6112 and 5160 set-ups and a little lift in the front just to level the truck out and give it a little lift to simulate the TRDPro level. Im running a new set of Dueler REVO 3 275/70/R18. The only place where I can find this setup is on the same site you mentioned and they are in stock. Like you, my truck is mostly on the pavement and I would prefer a softer ride but want it sitting a little higher but don't want to sacrifice the soft ride.

They have a good article that breaks it down to three categories of suspension: https://www.shocksurplus.com/pages/choosing-shocks-for-your-2007-2020-toyota-tundra

Yes! That article was very informative. They had good customer service that answered some additional questions I had and the shocks showed up within 3 days. I had a great experience and will definitely use them in the near future when it's time to put some shocks on my wife's Sienna. Good luck with your setup! I personally just like a stock height truck, so it was hard to wade through the sea of Tundra owners that wanted to lift or level their trucks out. I've read some really good things about the setup you're going for, hope you enjoy!

Amen, brother. :cheers:There is so much information on this forum I'm constantly going back and forth with all the feedback and have not pulled the trigger, especially given the price if I don't like the ride. I had a good experience with them as well and talked to a rep that knew his stuff and answered all my questions.
