    My first post & background.
I am picking up a new to me 2014 Tundra 2wd SR5 Double cab in a couple of weeks. (Flying to Texas to pick it and a 18' Lance Travel trailer and driving them back to AZ) purchased from a family member. Truck has 61K miles 5.7l engine.

    It has the 6.5' bed

I sold my Chevy Duramax truck but still have the in bed RDS tool box/aux fuel tank combo. I thought it would be good to keep and put in the Tundra if it would fit. It measures 58" wide by 18" deep by 21" tall. It would give me 60 gallons of auxiliary fuel capacity, I think Height and width are ok, but unsure if there is at least 18" of clearance between the front bed rail at the top and the beginning of the front edge of the wheel tub arch.

Could anybody with the double cab check this measurement for me please?
    Thank you!

    Welcome to the forum.

    Hope this helps..
Keep in mind I have a Flex cover that is attached to OEM rail system.
If you have the rails, you could always remove the one on the front to get another maybe 3/4 inch.
The top rail sits into a groove pretty much equal to the lower wall.

top rail to top rail width about 62.75"

Without the cover, I'd guess the bed rail height is 21.5 or so
Bedrug is too hot to get on my knees..

The pen marks 18" from the front wall

Gets close to the 18" in front of the wheel well, but I measured about an inch from the wall.
But you won't be going all the way to the wall edge, you'll have a couple of inches on each side.

Just for the hell of it,
Wheels well inside to inside is about 49.5.

In my uneducated opinion, I think it will fit.

Congrats on the truck, enjoy your time in Texas..

Not to freak you out, but catalytic converter thefts are crazy around here, especially from Tundras.
If you stay somewhere overnight (hotel or whatever), try to have a visual on the truck.
Consider getting cat shields of some kind when you get home.

    Welcome from TX!

That'll be a helluva lot of weight you'll be hauling around. Plans for a suspension upgrade? You're coming from a 3/4 ton/1 ton to a heavy half ton....you're gonna need to upgrade for sure.

Thank you VERY much for taking the time. When you took and showed that 18" measurement, was it taking into consideration the top front bed rail down and then back to the wheel well?
Sounds like it is so close, I will hang onto the tank until I get the truck and then try to fit it. It is a nice tool box/aux tank made by RDS. 60 gallons is a lot of capacity. Weight trade off of up to 360lbs vs. the convenience of not having to stop for fuel as often while pulling a trailer seems beneficial.
It would be nice to have a bed cover, but might not be able to open the tool box lid.

Gasoline weighs about 6lbs per gallon. Times 60 is 360lbs. (I could also limit that to 40 gallons if an issue) Truck should have no problem with that weight. Trailer is under 4000lbs GVW. I don't think that would be a problem for the Tundra?

Your Tundra will have a 26-gal tank, but you'll never be able to get more than 21 gallons in it on empty.
It has at least a 5-gallon reserve.
It would be nice to have a bigger tank..

I think it will fit, please post here when you find out..

How much is the aux tank itself?

My point is it all takes a toll on your overall payload. We all struggle with it.

Its an aluminum assembly, shipping weight is 96lbs. I would imagine 80+ lbs for the tank.
Still under the bed payload capacity? (1595lbs?)

I will come back and post here my findings once we get home and I set the tank in the bed to see how it fits.
One more thing, in this picture, it appears the driver's side of the bed is sloped inward at the front? Or is that an optical illusion?
    Thanks again!

I am looking forward to the Tundra. We will be the second owners, it just went to the dealership for service (including transmission fluid service) at my request and all looks fine.
I owned a 2005 Tacoma Double cab since new and loved it. Had 220K miles on it when I sold it. With this Tundra/trailer opportunity, it allowed me to sell our 35' 5th wheels and 2003 Silverado, down size a little bit and be more enjoyable to tow for just the wife and I.

    That is just that pic.
It might have a slight curve, but nothing like that pic.
My iPhone takes crappy pics in the sunlight at something dark.
The bottom is pretty much a 90° angle to the floor.

Any of the in bed tanks will work for gasoline. The issue is the flammability of gasoline vs. Diesel and all the government restrictions put in place for those kinds of tanks. Roll over valves, venting, the kinds of pumps that are used etc. Most tank manufacturers don't want to touch aux tanks for gasoline anymore....no reason you can't do it, research it and do your best to make for a safe installation.
I still haven't installed my in bed tank yet....I need to get it done. I too need to do some more research on safety

Appreciate the response. I’m going to take it to a shop. Just want to be able to make the trip from east coast to Texas on 1 tank of gas. Plus I’d rather have and not need than Ned’s and not have!!
