I have a 2016 SR5 Crewmax, somebody cut my catalytic converters off in my work parking lot and the mechanic shop says the cats are on back order for up to 5 months. Ive heard of people getting aftermarket parts in place of the OEM cats and exhaust, anyone have any recommendations please? I cant drive around with no exhaust for 5 months lol.
(sorry if this is covered, I searched but couldnt find a thread that matches my question)

You will need to call your insurance company and start the claim. Do not get aftermarket cats. These trucks do not like them and you will get check engine lights.

It wouldn't have to be covered again if his cats were covered lol.

truck has already been seen by the adjuster, and its all covered under insurance. I appreciate the bit about aftermarket, as that was idea to solve the 5-month wait time problem. So there's no reasonable solution besides waiting it out? Definitely dont want O2/ecu problems down the line. -- I see it thank you very much

if it has then link me to a thread with an answer, ive read plenty of the other threads about stolen cats and some having issues. None addressed the wait time problem that I’m having, and if theres reasonable upgrades that i can look into so I dont have to wait so long with no exhaust on my truck. -- Edit. i see it thank you very much

A couple of people have said they had to wait up to 9 months. Alot of threads talk about issues with aftermarket cats. They throw a CEL. If you want it to run right, you’ll have to wait on OEM. Order cat shields in the meantime.

You definitely want OEM cats to avoid headaches. I would order the cat protection plates while you are waiting for repairs. The Valhalla plates are extremely nice and solid. You will have to contact @Classy63 for your estimated wait times depending on which material you choose.

If you lived in a local without emissions compliance AND your insurance adjuster was OK with it could you get your entire exhaust swapped?

It seems like some of the cat replacement quotes are on par or exceeding the cost of a long tube exhaust system.

I'd imagine getting the LT's, emulators, bullydog, etc...would be faster than the 6mo wait times for cats.
