Hi, was pulling my camper today and I wanted to shift down so moved it to S but it stayed on drive, then when I got home I tried it again without the camper and it was a no go. I can feel the shifter move into it, it just still says drive. I’m trying to figure out if this could be something simple I can take to a local mechanic or take the 2 hour trip to a Toyota dealer.

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated, just want to make sure I’m not missing something easy

Anyone have any suggestions? I looks into the column and there are no broken wires, I did a little research and saw that there is a sensor on the transmission that might be bad, but weird that it works fine in drive. The column goes into S, but it stays D lit up and you can't use the shifter to switch gears.

    Thanks!

always has worked. I don't use it a lot, but it is nice when pulling my camper in the mountains. Always moved right in and then it always shifts to 4 gear automatically then I can use my selector on the column shifter to shift up or down. Now I move it over into S, you can feel it the column shifter find it, but the D stays lit up and I can't shift with the shifter. Everything works great in Drive, shifts great, no issues at all.

Do you have any trouble codes stored in the truck?

Did you check every fuse in the truck?

This is the Shift Up/Down switch for S mode. It only has power coming in from Engine ECM, A Shift Up, Shift Down signal doing to the ECM and a S Mode enable signal that is powered by a fuse. When you put it in S mode the switch closes and power from the LH-IG fuse goes through it telling the ECM you are in S mode.

I would check all fuses in the engine compartment and in the interior fuse box.

I checked every fuse and every one is showing power and working. I took it to my friend who is a GM mechanic and he couldn't figure it out either, he says that his computer says that it recognizes the up/down shift on the column shifter but it still won't shift out of drive. He had got a new control switch but the one on there reads that it is working. I'm thinking at this point that I drive it the 1 1/2 hours to a toyota dealer. Thanks for the advice, it was definitely worth looking into

Unfortunately you're going to be chasing down an electrical issue on this whether it be a fuse a switch an ecm a relay etc. Beauty of technology. If it were me .......:censored:eff that ...I'd take it to a dealer and let them mess with it.

Well I wanted to let everyone know that I took it to a toyota dealer mechanic and after 2 1/2 hours he figured out that it is the Shift Mode switch #1 and #2, parts are ordered and hopefully I'll be pulling my camper again soon. Thanks for all the advice on here, I really appreciate it!

So did they happen to tell your or show you the location of these switches or what these two parts look like? I recently got into my 2015 today and in S mode it will only shift down, it will no longer let me shift up. I have checked everything I know to check and I was thinking maybe I would find something in the forums, but doesn't seem like it happens to many. Thanks in advance.
