I just bought my first tundra it’s an 2018 and I love it. I’m just concerned about the engine it seems to be a little loud and clacks and you can almost hear a small knock. I am wondering if this is how these trucks sound? I hope to hear some feed back because I just bought it and should I bring it back to the dealer to have them look at it? Also I what oil do you guys recommend Mobil 1 or should I go with Toyota’s oil brand?

Mine sounded like a diesel or a typewriter. Lots of ticking, clicking and taping ... I assumed it was ok since the car was new and we are dealing with Toyota quality :notsure:

Yes your truck is fine the 5.7 is a noisy motor - no worries

Normal. If its warm were you are you can do an oil change and use 5W30 instead of the 0W20. Seems to quite them down a touch.

Normal. It is disturbing at first. You bought a quality truck, enjoy it! :)

I did this can confirm it is a bit quieter with 5w-30. I won’t be going back to 0w.

Yep, 5W-30 helps some, otherwise it’s like our 4Runner, lots of clacks.

    Welcome from NY.

Up in Massachusetts you can run 5W30 from April thru September. Use 0W20 during the winter months.

Read an interesting write up recently. Basically since we have EPA, CAFE and all that BS that needs to be satisfied, Toyota runs its tests with 0W-20, which yields the best fuel economy, however marginal it may be. By law they are required to tell you that’s what you need to use, since that’s what it was tested with.
But here’s the kicker, in other parts of the world, Toyota recommends anywhere from 0W-20 to 10W-30, with the exception of very cold climates (no 10W).

So, since it’s hot here in Texas, I’m running 5W-30 on my next change just to see. My guess is everything will be just fine and it’ll be a little less noisy.

That's just Toyota's DST feature..... Diesel Simulation Technology. You get that cool diesel rattle sound, but pay less at the pump.

I personally like it, as my previous truck was an '03 Cummins and I liked the way the diesel sounded.
