I sold my 2014 Platinum in 2021 and got myself a Honda Accord. I am now needing to get back into a full size truck for my business and have been searching for a couple months now. I know nothing about any other truck other than the Tundra. It's all I've ever known. I originally was looking to get back into the Platinum trim as the ventilated seats are not easy to get away from once you have them, especially in the south. However, I have found a 2020 TRD Pro with 94k miles on it and the dealer has been pretty good to deal with. We've gotten the price to $36,500 out the door and they worked on my Honda trade and are giving me $16,750 for it (about $1k above KBB).

All of this to ask those of you have had both, will I miss the Platinum? Is this a good price for the TRD Pro? I won't be doing much off road traveling, and will be towing a trailer later on down the road (nothing massively heavy). I have found some Platinum trims somewhat near me but they are sitting around the $42k + mark with 80k or so. Just not sure what to do. I appreciate the feedback and sorry for the long post.

I love my 2020 TRD Pro but if the crotch cooler is a necessity then I’d wait for a platinum. For the price and trade value mentioned, I’d go for it honestly.

If you’re going to be towing then I will also suggest some timbren bump stops at the rear or some air bags. I have the timbrens and love them.

They are both great trucks. Just different features between them. And both are selling for above or at sticker with low miles.

They’ve got me at $36,500 final for the TRD Pro. Not sure what I’ll do yet.

It’s really hard to say if it’s a good deal when it comes to used vehicles. You just don’t know the life they lived. You’d rather have a high mileage example that was babied than a low mileage one that was abused. But unfortunately unless you knew the prior owners there is no way to tell its history. I know everyone can’t do it but I always buy new so I know the history. Just have a good mechanic look at your choices. Don’t take the dealers word that some old lady only drove it to Bingo.

The Pro is basically shocks and a bed stamp. At 94k those shocks might need a rebuild anyway depending on how it was used. That leaves you with a bed stamp. :D

For my money I would go for the truck with the nicer interior.

New isn't an option - seeing the new ones are struggling and I'm not dumping $65k+ into playing Russian Roulette. I have the CarFax on it and the first owner brought it in every 4500-5000 miles for inspection and oil changes. Second owner had it for 11 months and did the inspections/changes every 8000-10000. I also live 4.5 hours from the truck, so I'm not able to drop by for a test drive without investing a lot of time into that and I want to be ready to pull the trigger if it's good.

Locally (Nashville area) - the dealers here are a nightmare and they are wanting some fairly aggressive pricing for their inventory. I fully understand that's the trend, but it seems to be worse here than a lot of other places.

That's where my mind has been. I have found a few Platinums within a few hundred miles of me, but they are substantially higher in price. I may just keep waiting to see if anything pops up later on down the road.

Does the TRD pro come with the integrated trailer brake controller like the platinum does? If not, I feel like that would perhaps be a good reason to stick with the Platinum. And I personally love my Platinum and how comfortable the interior niceties make it

For your application, I believe a TRD Pro isn't what you're looking for. If you're towing a lot your butts gonna be in that seat a lot wishing it had some ventilation. I believe if you went with anything else you would have regrets. A TRD Pro is nothing more than an appearance package to raise a few zero's. Calling on @Terndrerrr :)

I personally feel TRD PRO is more so a status than an actual parts issue.
Yea, at almost 100K the shocks are likely needing re-fresh or a new set, which you could be getting into better ones, Kings 3.0 or Fox 2.5 comes to mind, not cheap, but worth it.
At $36,500 OTD, I think that's a pretty good price overall, if the truck checks out.

But others have said it, if certain features are hard to pass on but not on the TRD PRO, pass and keep looking.
Spending a lot of money for a car you know is nagging the corner of your mind isn't exactly called smart.

Which direction is the 4.5 hours from you (nashville)? If north, I would steer away from it because of salt/rust. Any other direction, you should be safe.

Personally, I'd spend the extra and go for the Platinum if it can be in your budget range.

Side note, what Accord do you have? My wife has a 2016 with the V6 and it's surprisingly fuel efficient and decently fun to drive.

I'm probably going to wait to find a Platinum trim pop up around town. I'll save up some extra cash to get one with lower mileage.

I'm driving a 2018 Accord Touring 2.0T. It's been great to be honest and it's decked out with tech.

If i were in your shoes, I'd wait for a platinum. Sounds like its more appropriate for your uses. Like others said, the Pro is really just shocks and more for off-roading, and the example you're looking at, with almost 100k miles, new shocks would be a good idea, at which point the pro becomes pointless. I know it has some extra features, but sounds like the platinum has more features that are more important to you.

Man, you aren’t kidding. All three Nashville dealers are shady. Plus, Roberts in Columbia posts laughable prices online, hoping for an absolute moron with money and no sense, I guess. Toyota of Cool Springs was the worst in my experience. If I ever buy another new Toyota, I will check elsewhere.

Regarding ventilated seats in the South, I have one vehicle with them (the 570) and one with cloth (the Tundra). The ventilation really is a game changer with leather. I’m not interested in leather without it. But the cloth in my lowly SR5 has neither, and it doesn’t bother me at all.
Haha, yeah all of the 2.5 gen trucks are far more alike than different. I’m surprised no one has mentioned the missing trans cooler. OP could be buying himself right into a sweet class action lawsuit.

PS: at 94k miles, I promise you those shocks need rebuilt. They’re supposed to be rebuilt after 50k miles with pavement driving only.

I mean the trans cooler at this point is more so a given that if you don't have one, get one done, end of story.
I know we can argue to the world's end and back about it, but honestly? Just pay up and get one installed if it worries you.
I am recovering from a health issue, or I have found pretty much all the parts I need, plus someone else that shared a CAD for the bracket, which is pretty much the only thing holding me back.
