Just had accident in brand new 2020 Tundra CrewMax. Someone stopped on I-10 in Louisiana on left shoulder and when we were passing his stopped car he abruptly turned right in front of us to try to exit a freeway on ramp. Here are the before and after pictures. The seatbelts and airbags saved my life and my wife’s life. Driver causing accident was arrested.

Glad to hear you folks are OK.

Even better to hear shitstain that caused this was arrested. I hope he had insurance. With deployed air bags you are most likely looking at a total loss.

Sure thought it would be a total loss, but USAA claims adjuster said it should be repaired at an estimate of $18k!

Glad you guys came out of it injury free. Tundra can be replaced but you and loved ones cannot.

    I’d say that’s a total.

Surprised, if they do the repair don't forget about diminished value. Your truck will be worth less $$$ after the repair.

Keep us updated on this please.

As it turns out, with all this COVID-19 quarantine stuff, the only people on the open highway are (a) truckers delivering much needed supplies, and (b) a lot of really unsafe drivers. We were on the highway to go clean out our son’s college dorm room. The guy that caused accident had a suspended driver’s license and received two citations

Glad you and your wife are OK. I agree with you about the crazies out during this COVID stuff. The few times I've been on the freeway since our state went on lockdown I've seen multiple people doing 90+ weaving in and out of traffic. It's like they're taking the light traffic as an opportunity to drive like jackholes.

    Damn this sucks.

It was posts made by you that made me decide to black out my front and rear bumpers and leave the chrome grill surround.

    Glad you’re ok.

I don't think there's any chance they're fixing that. That may be their initial once over - once you take it to a reputable collision center they'll give you the real number. Bet it's double that- speaking from experience. Also as said above, USAA loves using knock off/non-toyota parts from what I hear. Let us know outcome, good luck, glad you and family are safe which is most important.

I always get it when buying/leasing new. Just peace of mind. My insurer Farmers offers it for not much extra. Just don't get it from the dealership. They sell it for more.

60mph on cruise control, hit brakes and likely impacted at 50mph when he pulled out in front of me. Both me and wife knocked unconscious from airbag impact. Came to when construction worker was cutting the side airbags with a knife to get us out. Airbags shattered both our sunglasses, but no facial lacerations. I had chest contusion and wife broke a couple of ribs from seatbelt. Yes to GAP question, no to sensors helping. 4x2 CrewMax SR5 FSS OffRoad Package. 23D69081-E6E6-4E21-B1EB-75AFF65BC518.jpg

Oh, one more detail. I paid cash for the 2020 brand new so didn’t owe anything on it. 3 weeks old and only 615 miles on it before the accident. Dealership gave me $21k for my 2015 Tundra with 80,000 miles on it (which I was really happy about), new 2020 was $38k, so wrote a check for the difference. 2015 was silver sky color, and 2020 was concrete.

Holy, glad your still around and injuries are minor. Feel sorry for your wife, I've had broken ribs and it takes a long time to heal. Laughing and sneezing are the worse.

I'm actually impressed how the Tundra did with the impact. I would have never guessed that was around 50mph.

    Speedy recoveries.
