2020 Tundra roof trim fell off

I just noticed this weekend that a small piece of the trim on the roof of my 2020 DC SR5 fell off sometime recently. The truck has not been damaged or repainted. The longer piece that remains is quite loose, and it would probably fall off too if I left it much longer. My truck is under full warranty, so the repair will be covered. I'd just hate to see any of your trucks that are out of warranty lose this trim. It looks like it should be cheap, but trim never is. The body shop guy at my local Toyota dealer says he's seen this many times with current Tundra's and Tacoma's. He says the strips are not properly anchored, and they're going to install a new piece and anchor both sides. He says they commonly come off when going through the dryer at the car wash. You might want to check yours!

I REALLY like this truck. I've had it since August of '20. This is a minor thing, and I'm only posting it to try to save you Tundra owners from having to buy some trim.

I don't think that it is a common problem. I go through an automated car wash every week and have not lost the piece. I hope they can fix it for you and that it won't happen again.

That's sucks and thanks for letting us know...seems Toyota keeps finding new ways to keep their cost down. :/

It'll be interesting to see if anyone else has had this problem, and if they have I'm wondering if they'll be from cold weather states. I'm thinking maybe the water from the car wash gets in there, freezes and loosens the trim.

I tried four differently worded searches before I posted and I couldn't find that. Thanks. Maybe the car wash blower is the culprit after all.

Thank you for reminding me to bust out the 3M industrial double sided tape before our upcoming road trip! The long piece that runs the length of the cab on my truck came loose the only time I’ve ever used an auto car wash and now flops out of the track with any sort of strong side wind... seems like it has shifted where it won’t clip underneath the back piece that fell off on your truck. You would think there be a clip in the middle of the long piece somewhere but there isn’t, no more automatic car washes for me! Lucky yours is still under warranty though! For me it’s a quick self fix though still at least.

Happened to me at a car wash. I have a 2017 Tundra crew cab.. Here are the part numbers for the short pieces you lost. Below is the right and left side part #'s. One of these is the part you need. They come with 3M tape backing pre-installed but you can add more. Simple fix.

    75553-0C030 Drip Molding
    75554-0C030 Drip Molding

I figure this will come up often so here is the entire list of parts for a full replacement in case anyone needs them as a result of a search query.

    75554-0C030 Drip Molding
    75553-0C030 Drip Molding
    75561-02020 Drip Molding (Clips 4)
    75551-0C060 Drip Molding
    75552-0C060 Drip Molding

FYI- If your clips are intact and functional I would leave / re-suse them. I replaced mine but realized it wasn't necessary when I got into the install.

It makes sense that if it’s a little loose, those car wash dryers could yank them off.

I have a 125mph DeWalt leaf blower, and I bet those car wash dryers blow faster than that

Never been thru a car wash, happened on my 2014 and my 2018.

dealer fixed the 2014, I used some industrial double sided tape and fixed it myself on my 2018.

heard it flappin while driving and took me a while to figure out what it was.

not a big deal to fix

This happened on my 2012 Tundra. Went through an automated car wash and ripped them out.

Happened on my 2009 Tacoma. It just came loose. It started flapping. Dealer fixed under warranty. 2 months later putting my ATV on trailer I noticed some small dents on roof. Took it back to the dealer and they had a dent popper fix them.

Yep, quite common. Happened on my 09 Taco and on my 07 Tundra. Never used a drive thru car wash on either. My 14 had the passenger side missing when I bought it. Not a big deal. Paid $70 or so for a replacement. Used Gorilla glue on the new clips and a few inches of thin double sided 3M tape near each end.

Very common. Happened on my 07 4Runner too. They aren't glued in and if they get a little area pulled up they're easy to get blown off.

Luckily I can see the roof of my truck from my bonus room so I'll have to keep an eye on it.

It's happened on my 2020 a couple of times; it was replaced without question by the service department, and properly secured.

I have had the problem, and am from the frigid tundra of Southern California.

Darn. I like to blame everything on winter.

Looks like this is fairly common after all.

Happens to me when I wash my truck. Thanks for reminding me to break out the glue. I wonder why it's even there? Is it just a rain gutter?

On Tacomas it is where the rails sit for the roof rack. Not sure if same on Tundra. I have not seen a Tundra with a roof rack.

Toyota loves these trim parts and their customized anchor design, they ring-in a ton of sales for their parts division. Don't wait for this design to ever be upgraded, they are the built-in gift that keeps giving! $$$$$ "Tomo arigato Akio Toyoda!" $$$$$

I just keep bringing it back, and having them replace it. Last time I brought it in they said they wouldn't be replacing it again, so when it came off again - I contacted corporate. Just waiting for the part to come in and they'll be replacing it again for free.
