Somebody / Anybody know if there are stake pockets underneath the plastic covers on the top of the box bed on the 2022-23 Tundras ...looking to install a canoe rack on my new Tundra {depending on stake pockets} or do I have to go across the road to GM. Thanks.

Have any of you 22-23 Tundra owners ever looked or wondered if there are stake pockets underneath your bed quarter panel plastic covers to see if you could put Bed Rails on your Tundra.

Good question Doug. I don't have an answer, but with the composite beds I don't think there are the usual stake pockets.

Pretty sure there are many ladder racks on the market that work with the bed rails.

Bed rails are installed on the walls of the bed, not into the stake pockets. I’d say go to the dealership and take a look in person and ask them these questions.

Sounds like someone is more interested in having a problem than finding a solution. Go buy a GM.

There are plenty of solutions for mounting a rack in the bed. Why not just look for one instead of complaining that the one possible option that you’re used to doesn’t work?

I wanted tow hooks too, and guess what - I got tow hooks for $130.

There are a lot of ladder/bed racks available with plenty of options (with or without tonneau covers).

For towing people out of snow you should be good to go. You should always pull others while in drive with any vehicle. Towing from the front you'll break stuff. The missing tow hooks are a bummer but I didn't use them on my last two and if you get into situations where you need them you'd likely want a winch up front as well so an aftermarket bumper would be a good solution.

Install bed rails if you don’t already have them and buy a rack that fits them. There are a lot of options available. I know CBI makes one.

This is the reason why I was looking for stake pockets, 2 front ones at least. I tow a 25ft 5th wheel trailer along with my canoe. I've got no problem fabricating things, I know I'll have to fabricate front mtg brackets because of no tow hooks, I've got that pretty much figured out how to do , my mtg brackets now are extensions above my 08 tow hooks that allow for canoe rack and tow hook usage, but having to fabricate pockets is a different ball game . Going out spending over $70000.00 + Tax 15% and dealer fees for a Tundra and than having to spend another $1000. plus for a front bumper.... "ain't happening" on senior citizen pension . I got a job to buy the vehicle , Factory Stake pockets and Tow hooks would make my life a lot easier . I love my Tundra and think I would Love my next one if it happens.

Are you looking at double cab or crew max? If crew max - a rack over the cab would do what you need. The 5th wheel is a bit of a curve ball. I think if I was towing anything that large I'd be thinking about something more than a half ton. You should be able to get a very well equipped limited for under 60k. I've got a limited TRD OR and I haven't found it lacking in any way.

Looking at Crewmax LTD TRD OR not sure of the weight off hand but handles great on the 08 with air bags. Under 60k in your neck of the woods ,not here in NL. Canada 68k + taxes no add on's.

If crew max - a rack over the cab would do what you need.

A rack over the cab would put the canoe to far back to balance out and get in the way of the trailer.

Canada price change makes sense. You could mount a longer extension to the rack to distribute the weight farther forward. It would possibly put more stress on the mounts though. Definitely a tough situation though - canoes are pretty long. Easy to do without a trailer or 5th wheel, but both at the same time will probably take a pretty creative solution

How many times does this need to be repeated on this forum? DON'T PULL IN REVERSE. You risk blowing up the front diff.

Gonna do some more thinking, where there's a will there's a way, the 08 is still treating me well though there's a time shes gonna let me down 235000km going strong and maybe good for another 235000 . , the other running gear ....who knows .
    Thanks for the input James
