Curious if my 315/70/17 will fit in there since I'm planning to do a rotatable spare.

On the Lexus GX/4Runners, people will deflate and ratchet strap the tires to get them into place. Of course you need to carry a compressor with you at all times.

That's not a terrible idea. However, if you ratchet strap it I can see it "bulging", making the tire wider, and it reducing the departure angle. Am I crazy?

thanks. i need to go look at the spare size under my platinum. since platinum comes with 20" wheels not sure if the spare is the same. but if the spare is a 20" then i'm looking at 285/60/20 on all corners and the spare. sees like i should be able to get the spare under there without any cutting, etc. thanks.

OK guys I was able to get a 315/70R17 into the spare area. I deflated to 15 PSI (I have onboard air). Not sure if that was necessary, but I did it anyhow. And it fits!

Nice set up! I was curious how it looked under there with a near 35" tire. I'm running 35x12.5, but ill be stuffing a 295/70r18 on the steel spare under there. Thanks for posting pictures! Ideally i wanted a full 35, but it won't fit on the 7inch wide steel spare. Should be close enough diameter wise to get me to a tire shop worst case scenario. White letters out look nice! The rules are you must be over 50 years old to run white letter out though lol

I will caution that the 315/70R17 on a 0 offset wheel rubs at full lock. The factory wheel offset is 60. So, 0 offset is 2.3 inches further out than stock. Having installed 0 offset, I recommend 35 offset.

I must say I’m digging the white lettering on the tires

…about your rubbing situation though I am guessing you don’t have a level/lift?

    Plan to get one?

There are also a couple of folks running 0 offset but I can’t recall if it’s with 12”+ width as you have, no level/lift and their rubbing situation.

    Truck looks good.

I actually do have a lift kit. It's the Westcott Designs kit, which is 3" lift in front, 1" in rear.

However, I refuse to 'level' it, because I use my truck as a truck and I don't want it to squat. So, I left 1" out of the front. Making it a 2" lift in front, 1" lift in rear. Still rubs.

I ordered the 35 offset wheels and will be moving these 0 offsets to my FJ Cruiser.

Would anything hold the tire in place besides the chain?

It just looks like a shackle receiver mount.

That makes a little more sense. I did google "hitch bumper" and found something I could use when backing up this boat into a short parking stall.

I bet if you deflated and used a strap to pull the tire back toward the hitch you could make it work. Fitting the 285/70 under my GX required I go below 15 psi so that the strap could compress the tire enough.

I totally get not wanting to spend a ridiculous amount of money on a tire carrier though. I didnt either. Im honestly not sure why they cost that much when I can get an 1UP aluminum bike rack for like 1/3 the cost.

No more than if you are wheeling and running at 12 psi with 2000 lbs sitting on the tire. The strap barely squishes the tire. Just enough to buy you the 1/4" or whatever that you need to squeeze it in.

I've got a fully inflated 295/70/18 Cooper M/T tire under there right now. Been there since I upgraded tires about 6 months ago. Never been an issue.

hey y'all, been off the boards for a while. I did end up mounting mine and it did NOT sit flush without some modification. This is what I did:

Your tire size is 34.4", I just tried to get a 295/65/20 35.1" in there and would fit between the pan bar and hitch, unless I am doing something wrong.
