Got my truck back finally from having the engine replacement done. Overall, it was a painless affair on my end, just took longer than expected. The dealer took the truck in Dec. 12th and it took until last week for the motor to arrive from Toyota. Not sure if this is the same experience that others will have, but it was the first one my dealer was doing.

Quality of the work? How’s the new motor behaving? Any mention of warranty provided for the new motor?

The worked looked good. I used to work for a Toyota dealer in the bodyshop, so I gave it a good once over and nothing stood out. The motor runs smooth so far, but I've only put about 20 miles on it since I got it back. I asked about the warranty on the motor and they told me as far as they know Toyota isn't extending the warranty on the motor beyond the normal warranty already on the truck, but they also said that they haven't been getting a lot of information from them. I personally I would liked to have seen another 3yr/36k on the engine, but that is neither here nor there.

Good for you. A 22 with a new engine in 25....nothing to bitch about , like buying a truck 3 years later that has all the kinks worked out of it

That was my thoughts too. It's almost like getting a new truck especially since I got this one used as a lease turn in.

There has to be some sort of warranty. What happens if tommorrow you go outside and there's a puddle of coolant under the truck?

My guess is that the replacement motors will fall under this:
The Toyota Service Part Warranty is in effect for 12 months, regardless of mileage, from the date the part was installed on the vehicle, or the remainder of any applicable New Vehicle Limited Warranty, whichever provides greater coverage, with the exception of batteries.

Dropped my 22 Monday 7:30am to have the long block installed. It has 23k miles with no issues. They had the new motor in by end of the day Monday. Drove it some and inspected Tuesday morning then completed the gas filler tube recall Tuesday afternoon. They gave me a nice Highlander Hybrid loaner and have been outstanding to work with. They even took pictures of engine swap for me. I couldn’t get there in time to pick it up today but will in the morning. I’ll post an update after I get some miles on it. I’ll also ask about the warranty.

I wish they had taken pictures of mine. I did get a chance to see the old engine out on a engine stand while they where finishing up with the new motor on the lift.

Picked my truck up this morning. Definitely feels different, tighter. New motor has less vibration when accelerating and idles so smooth I can’t tell it is running. Old motor idle I could feel in console and steering wheel. I saw on paperwork warranty payout was $15,700 ish. That may have included the gas tube recall that was also completed.

Just ordered my Blackstone kit for my 500 mile change. I don’t drive this vehicle much so changing it before 1000. Best part is it has that new truck/engine smell when you get out of it. Thank you Toyota.

Update: I got the truck out and went driving today. It seems that I must have been having engine trouble from the old engine without knowing it as I had bought the truck used. It’s like a completely different vehicle. It drives and idles smoother than it ever did before. Pickup and move is much quicker and what I thought was wind buffeting at 65-70mph was obviously not. Overall it is like a different vehicle and everything feels much tighter and solid.

I am so glad to hear that this has been a good (well, as good as can be) experience for you all.

If I ever need to drop down to a 1/2 ton, the Tundra may be on the list. As of right now, it would be a F-150 with a whipple SC installed.

I do not know what to think about the warranty. There has to be a happy medium in there somewhere? Something good for the owner and Toyota????? :)

They said powertrain warranty covers up to 60 mo/60k miles which ever comes first. If you are beyond 60k miles already then 12 months/12k miles would be your coverage. And yes it would also be covered under Toyota extended warranty depending on what time and mileage you purchased.

Not if the engine doesn't get a 'new' warranty starting from install.
WTF has happened to Toyota? Absolute clown-world what has happened to this brand's reliability.

OP, glad you're rolling again! Hoping that you get some longevity, you have more patience than many of us.

Any thoughts on how long we can wait to get recall done if we're not having issues? Purchased Feb '22 with 28k miles. I was just in to my dealership to have tires rotated under toyoguard and they ordered the engine. I told them to hold since the truck is running smoothly. After reading this thread, maybe I don't know what I'm missing and the new engine would seem worlds better...?

I was in the same boat as I purchased mine used in early 24. I didn’t have anything to compare the engine to and just decided I would rather be on the front end of the replacement cycle than be stranded somewhere with the kids and wife for comfort of mind.

I think I'd rather be on the "front end" of these swaps. The techs are likely taking their time and being very thorough, since this is new to them. After 20-30 swaps, I can envision corners being cut and mistakes being made.

I'm glad it's been an overall decent experience for you. Enjoy your new engine!

Hi all new to the forum and not something I usually partake in but I have a question for fellow tundra owners.

I had my motor replaced a week ago, just took it up to go skiing yesterday and had a total failure, motor was puking coolant, truck and transmission were throwing overheating codes.
I happen to know the manager and GM of our dealership. I sent them a message and said come get it. Which they did. Mid you I just drove this truck 2 weeks ago, 8 hours each way, with no issues, pre motor replacement.

I’m sure I’ll hear back on Monday that a hose came free, or something like that, they’ll try to deflect blame.

What would you ask for in this situation? I think this could have damaged the motor, with less the 200 miles on it.

I am thinking one of the following.
Order another new motor and swap it, properly test drive it first.

    200k warranty.

or buy the truck back for purchase price 2 years ago.

I have a different situation then most, I’ve spent 250k in 6 years with this dealer, I feel I’m owed the benefit of the doubt on this one. This truck has been nothing short of a disaster, mirror fell off the first week, trim fell off, multiple recalls and now this.

    Thoughts?

My thought is, you might "feel" they owe you the benefit of doubt, but they probably don't give a rat's ass about your feelings.

The only thing they owe you is to fix your truck under the conditions of the warranty.

Hopefully your relationship with the GM makes a difference, but I wouldn't hold my breath.

Thats too bad that the truck either blew a hose of something else to cause it to leak coolant.

If you continued to drive the truck while overheating, then you might have a problem.

I dont know of many manufacturers that actually ship a long block to repair motor defects at all.
Toyota didnt the right thing on this one.

Dont like how Toyota handled this problem? Read about the Hyundai theta 2 engine.
They had engines contaminated with machining debris. What did Hyundai do about it?
Programmed the knock sensor to put the engine into safe mode when it detected a rod knock and a free oil change.
Then they made the 100k warranty transferrable and I believe have it a little more mileage.
That's it. If your engine failed, they helped. If it still ran ok after 125k miles.... your problem.
