Would you buy a 22 limited hybrid with 5,000 miles for $62,000. Seems like a good price to me and they seem to be hard to find. Interest rate are crazy high but I don't know that I have much control on that part.
I'm mainly nervous because I think the market might be going down soon on the auto market. Prices are crazy, interest rates are crazy, and dealers seem to be getting more cars.
    BUY OR WAIT ?

Wait , Toyota has been cleaning up the builds as time has gone along

a used earlier model is adding to the risk of issues imo

I agree. I would look at very late build 2022 or 2023. IMO

Bilstein 5100's, Morimoto gen 2 XB headlights and fog lights, TRD sway bar and skid plates. Nothing else needed!
Thats an insane price given historical pricing. Yes, the pandemic blew up car prices, but like all things, the market doesnt go up forever. As the chip shortage eases, I think we will see car pricing come down substantially. Yes rates are higher, but the bigger issue is the basic principle of depreciation, and used cars shouldnt be going up in value as they have for 2 years. Thats going to end. Taken in conjunction with the fact that the early years of this model will surely go through refinement, as some users are already reporting problems with the turbos I would wait.

I'd wait for two reasons: First is the reason you cite regarding the possible future direction of prices. And, with 5000 miles and it being a 2022 model, I wonder if this is an early, buggy model that was turned in by the first owner. Check the build date.

How would I check the "build date" I was told this truck was purchased by someone at the dealership and he sold it back to the dealership because someone traded a new GMC AT4 with the 6.2 that he wanted.

Are the turbo's under the lifetime warranty?

its on the door jam sticker where the tire pressure and payload is

I would be really careful with this truck, especially if its not late 2022 at the earliest

Not worth the risk. Too high a chance it’s a problem truck the previous owner had to dump. But they’re going to tell you the PO traded it in for a TRD Pro.

There’s an old adage - If the price seems to hood to be true…

This is a dealer selling the truck - not some little old lady whose husband just bought it - drove it a few months and then passed - leaving her with an unwanted truck.

Dealers know the value of what they are selling and more importantly know how to capture every cent. If they are selling for thousands below “market” there are a few possibilities.

    - Your perception of “market” is wrong
    - There is a major problem and they want that ticking time bomb off their lot ASAP
    - or most probable…the price is a tease. Price rock bottom to get you in the door - then they hit you with a combo of lowball trade, jacked up finance, outrageous admin fees and reconditioning fees. What’s that - you wanna pay cash and you’ll just give them the sticker and tax period - but not pay those extras? Oh, sorry - it just sold (and mysteriously will reappear a few days later).

I’d pass as your never going to “win” playing a game with a dealer. It’s like walking in and expecting to beat a slot machine long term - it’s just a foolish plan. Every once in a while you come away with a small “win” - but you will never score big at a casino or a dealership.

What lifetime warranty? The only lifetime warranties I am aware of are dealer provided (not Toyota provided). Some dealers (including the one I purchased from) include a "lifetime powertrain warranty" as part of the BS dealership package they add on to the price of the truck. That "lifetime powertrain warranty" is provided by the dealership itself and if the dealership disappears, so does said warranty.

Toyota does not provide any "lifetime" warranties on anything that I am aware of.

    Lots of stuff!
I saw an ad the other day for “Ruby Sliders” you get a limited supply if you order now and you get a 10 year replacement warranty. The ad also says that the company is shutting down. Too funny! Warranty is only as good as the paper it’s written on.

I did notice that the pics show a lift and more aggressive tires so someone was modding that hybrid.

We have a bunch of used 2022’s on CR for usually 20 to 30k over MSRP. So a 2022 Platinum goes for 90k and it just has someone else’s miles and lift kit and bigger tires. Seems that the used market up here is still crazy! A few months back, I saw a used Limited Hybrid for 100k!

You'd need to ask the dealer what their lifetime warranty covers.

No way in heck I'd bite on a first year truck at this point, no chance. "Deal' notwithstanding.
The QC pain is quantifiable at this point.

Comes down to if it is the color, options you really want or very close to it. Still luck and work to get exactly what you want in this market. If you are flexible go for a 23. If is checks most of your boxes then you may regret passing it up for the unknown.

That is a fully loaded limited with rear air suspension which is hard to find new or used. Price is almost exactly MSRP. Agree with others, if it is what you want not waiting six months to a year could make this truck a good choice. Might check a carfax to make sure no questionable history and have Toyota dealer run service history so you know if it had any issues.

I would wait. When I decided to buy I had to wait a bit then over the last couple months I received a fair number of calls from dealers with unallocated trucks. I ended up getting my 23 in under a month at sticker and still got 20k for a 2011 Tundra.

And if you go new you can likely get promotional interest rates to help a bit on that end.

Also my 23 seems to have none of the common 22 issues.

I picked up my new 2022 late build Hybrid 2wd for $59k off the showroom floor which was almost 5k under sticker. This was 3 months ago.

That truck looks good and 4wd, upgraded tires, level kit, and also see it has AVS air suspension which is a big plus. If you can grab it for $62k or less it's a good deal. Bet you can get down to $60k even if you play the deal well.

    My 2 cents

No such thing as late build….it’s all the same up to this point. There’s no proof late 2022 or even 2023 builds are improved vs. early 2022. The only difference is the press the early models received from the handful of early owners. All the same

No proof, yes. However, it appears that all of the new 23 owners that come here do not complain about the wind noise, nor turbo waste gates, nor skylight grab handle leaks.

Early 22s complained about thin plastic seat base that breaks, mine is Sept 22 and has pretty hard plastic base.

So it appears that toyota does change and fix things on a monthly basis in their production line - eg early 2022 vs late 2022

No, I got my 2023 4x4 platinum for 61,000 last week. You can find deals if you look around. If you are stuck on a hybrid, you will have to be willing to wait. There were not many around here under msrp.

I have an early 2022 limited offroad and don’t have any of these issues. My lower mirror did fall off haha.
You wonder though how much if it has to do though with them 2023 owners knowing now what they - could be - expecting.
After all, the last thing they would want to do is pick up their 2023 and complain about wind noise. They already have seen it posted numerous times. However, on the same note, I’m seeing new members here posting very similar (and duplicative) complaints that have previously been posted a year ago. I just don’t think they’ve fixed much this year.

Wanted to buy a used one to save $ but they’re going for more than new ones. Shopped around half a dozen dealers in Houston area and they seemed more negotiable on a new one than used. Made no sense to me. Even when rates are lower with new models. Kept telling sellers I was looking for a base crewmax 4wd. Sold me a crewmax at just below base msrp price but with a ton of options for free.
