2022 Plat. Wireless Charger Not Charging iPhone 13's

Hello all,

Just took delivery of a 2022 Platinum and tested the wireless charger on the way home and it starts to charge my phone and then stops about 10-15 seconds later. The Yellow light starts flashing.

Does not work on:
iPhone 13
iPhone 13 Pro
iPhone 13 Pro Max

Does work on:
Samsung Galaxy S10e

Anyone else have this problem? Does on any iPhone 13's?? Manual talks about iPhone 12 but that's the latest model mentioned.

 

13 Pro here... Apple case, works only if the phone is removed from the case. No bueno.

 

I did take it out the case and it seemed to work better. I’ll complain to Toyota.

I have a 12 Pro and I went through 3 total cases in the past month trying to find one that worked consistently. The final determination is that the case I have works for the most part on the wireless charger and will stay charging consistently but it has to be sitting on it perfectly. Also, it does not charge the phone fast enough to avoid losing a small amount during use if you're using wireless CarPlay while streaming music, maps, etc. The Qi chargers just aren't powerful enough for that in general with the plastic in between the phone and the charger. For me, it works enough to do what I need and doesn't lose much battery at all. However, I don't expect my phone to charge at all if I use the wireless charger because I'm always using CarPlay.

I'm using an Otterbox Symmetry case. You'll want a case that allows the phone to sit perfectly flat with NO ridges on the outside or anything that would cause even the slightest gap.

 

Huh, my orange doesn't have any problems charging but I also don't have a new 2022 Tundra

 

I had a 2014 Platinum and LOVED the Pro-Clip mount with there MagSafe adapter for the Pro-Clip. Then plugged in Apple's MagSafe charger into a USB-C 12v adapter. Nearly 20w charging. But with my 13 Pro Max, never have battery issues. Seamless, no-drill interface and no damage interface.

 

Agree, this is due to the specs/quality of the QI charger... I have several "Very Cheap" QI chargers from Amazon and I used them every day and haven't had issues. It is fare to say they are not on a car, in any case, it should work.

 

i've contact charged for the past few years between a couple phones and yes, the case is an issue. Fortunately, when i bought my iphone 13 they have contact charge friendly cases which completely solves the problem. save the complaint to toyota and go find a case that works

 

Does anybody know if the apple silicone case on there iphone 13 pro work?

 

I use an Incipio case on my 11 and I’ve never had a problem with the charger…I know it’s not a 13 but if your 13 works outside the case then the Incipio might be a good choice.

 

I have the genuine Apple Leather case with MagSafe. I know Qi is not MagSafe but you would think it would work. And my nightly charger is Qi wireless and has worked fine with my 11 Pro, 12 Pro, 13 Pro Max. Guessing the thresholds are a little bit less on this Toyota Supplied Qi charger. Have plenty of Qi chargers around the house and garage that have no issues with the 13 Pro Max either.

 

My wife's Lexus ES also won't charge my samsung or her iphone with cases on. Must be Toyota's chargers are weaker than regular retail

 

for sure, not sure how there isn’t any testing done before they head into production. Honestly insane

 

Would confirm the case may be the issue, my 12 pro otterbox no go, wife’s 12 pro amazony special $15 thin case aok. At least a phone fits in the spot good, I have a 22 f350 as well and the wireless charger is a joke, phone is sideways takes 4hours to charge and is impossible to get in and out of holder.

 

The issue is the 13 camera sticks out too far so there’s considerable gap to the charging coil. My 13 pro doesn’t charge either.

I dont think Toyotas charger is any weaker, its something with the phone. I have an iPhone SE (need a home button lol) with an Apple leather case and it charges as expected.

 

The 13s have been issues in all the cars Toyota sells with a wireless charger. I’ve had a couple used non Toyotas come in complaining about a 13 not charging too.


Most of these in car wireless chargers are kinda weak to begin with because lawyers. Higher power charger can cause more issues with the people who leave coins under their phone or any metal (if metal is between the phone and charger they get seriously hot)

 

3m dual lock and apple’s MagSafe charger. iPhone 12 charges fast, stays put and I don’t have to look down to see a map, notification, etc.
all in for about $50

 

Same problem with my 13 Pro and 2022 Tundra. Seems to be the camera, if I put the phone on upside down sometimes it works. I have 2 wireless chargers at work one cheap and one high quality and they both have issues with the iPhone 13 with the cameras lifting it off the charger.

 

Note 10....Otterbox commuter case. Keep starting and stopping charging as well as lose power while using android auto. I flipped phone upside down and now it works perfectly and gains charge as AA is running with waze and music streaming.

 

Can't wait until Pro-clip makes a moutn for the 2022. Contacted them about it. Like the original post, I put a MagSafe adapter for the Pro-clip mount.

 

My wife's 13 pro will not charge in her Cadillac console charger unless the case is off...
I got my Mom a 12 Pro last year and it wouldn't charge in any of the home easel chargers unless the case was off.

I think it is more an Apple problem than a Toyota problem.

 

Confirmed at dealer my iPhone 13 pro will not charge properly because of camera bump. Charges kinda if the phone is naked. So basically I have to use my car charger still.

 

pretty much all toyota oem wireless chargers suck. i think they only use a 2 coil system compared to a 3 coil system the better 3rd party chargers use.

 

Work purchased a 2022 Ford Transit Connect and the wireless charger doesn’t work well with my 13 Pro Max. Maybe the 14 Pro Max might? We’ll know on Friday.
