I have researched this topic but have not been able to find information anywhere. If anyone can help me understand this topic I will be eternally grateful. My problem seems to be different from all the information online. My issue is that I am wanting to DISABLE a lot of crap on the new gerneration of TUNDRA(2022). Specifically I want to disable the automatic door locking crap. The only way I have found to stop it from locking is to leave my keys in the truck.
My situation is that I do not live in a city(who with a Tundra would;-D), and I carry a lot of tools, etc in my truck. I regularly(daily on multiple occassions) access these items in my truck while at home in my driveway. Every time i have to go inside to retrieve my keys to open my truck. If I just hit the door open button, the damn truck locks itself soon after, and I have to go through the same crap again when I need to return the item I was using. While I have managed to find ways to disable some Toyota crap(like lane change death trap control) I cannot find information on this automatic door locking function anywhere. I want to turn it off. If you follow my story on this, you will figure out that this damn fuction actually lowers my safety and security because the only way I have found to disable it is to leave my keys in the truck. That sucks, and I thank anyone who can help me understand how to fix this problem. I do not want my truck to lock itself for any reason. You may, and if you do, thank you for not telling me to not leave my keys in the truck - in advance. I want auto lock off, so if you can't help me do that, please do not reply.

That’s funny because I want mine to do the opposite. I wonder if it is trim specific. Mine stays unlocked all of the time. I do believe there is some time to lock options inside of the app.

    Welcome to the forum..
Nice to see you're coming in strong..

Did you discuss this with your dealer?
I read thru your manual and it stated the dealer can turn off your smart key system.
Perhaps that would fix your door lock issue as well as some of the other 'issues' you have....

BTW, a lot of us Tundra owners live 'in the city'..
I guess we aren't as fortunate as you are..:(
    Good luck..

firehawk, I hear ya, as that seems to be what everyone else is experienceing also(from what I found). Makes no sense that they are different, but mine is an SR5 if it matters. Thanks for your input.

    1lowlife thanks for your resonse also. I have hammered the manual too, and as far as i can tell the page you show does not concern the auto locking as much as it does the smart key functions. But, I will have something more to discuss with the dealer next week as this may play a part. Thanks for your input. I thought all you city types drove prius;-}

Isn't the smart key being removed from the vehicle what makes it lock itself?
I don't anything about it, I'm not sure what all it does.
But then thinking about it if you turned the smart key off, how would you start the truck?

I have 2014 that doesn't lock unless I lock it..

also 1lowlife, the picture you included is from page 568, the one below is from page 569 and concerns autolocking. The one circled, best I can determine, is the one I want to disable or turn off, and not control the time before lock. Another question for the dealer...thanks again.

Well, the smart key is not acutally a key as much as it is a remote control, although it does have a physical key inside of it for emergency opening of the drivers door. Meaning it does not go into anything, it simply operates wirelessly.

    • Now that being said, after our last exchange, I have returned to the multi media controls, and discovered that there was a software update available(Settings-->Software Update) - so... wait for it.... I installed the update. Next I looked under the menu I sent you a picture of, and low and behold, there was more options to choose from - including OFF. Holy moly - that worked. The turck has not locked itself since. Seems to be the fix. New software update seems to have included the fix. Thanks and my apolgies for wasting everyones time...Happy Thansgiving to you and yours.

I could be wrong but my truck only locks itself if I lock it. If my truck is locked and I hit the remote to unlock it will re lock if I never actually open the door. As a matter of fact when I go to remote start my truck in the morning from my house it will never let me do it. I always have to lock it first, then start it. Did you check the setting in the nav screen?

I saw that but I think that applies to like, you unlocked your truck with the fob or in your case touched the handle.
If you don't open the door, the truck locks itself back after a certain amount of time..
    My 2014 does that.
When I need something out of the truck, I unlock it in the house but have to get to the truck within 30 seconds or it relocks.

You're like me, you won't give up until it is fixed..

I'm glad you got it figured out.
    You didn't waste anyone's time.
Someone else can actually learn from you by posting a solution to the problem.
    That's what we do here..

    Hang around the forum.
Lots of info, ideas, and good people here..

    Be safe.....1LL

My Limited never locks itself with key in truck or out after I turn it off. I have to touch handle or use fob to get it to lock. I also changed the setting so it only auto locks after I hit a certain speed. I tried to find instructions for these setting changes but am still looking. Ill post when I can find them.

It should only auto lock if you unlock it & don’t open a door within allotted time. That’s how mine works, and 2 minutes is fine for my usage. I have never had it auto lock in any other circumstance, but perhaps using Carista or have a ‘dealer customization’ disable it with tech stream?
    Just a thought

Although you seem to have fixed your problem (if I read everything correctly) why couldn’t you have just carried your keys with you all the time? I put mine in my pocket in the morning and take them out at night…truck is always open or locked at my convenience.

    Or did I miss something?

Guys I want to say again thanks for all the responses, but I simply do not desire my truck to ever lock itself, under any circumstance. In my post at 1:19 I reported that I found a new option in auto lock settings after installing the software update today. The new software has an option to turn auto lock OFF(but this does not apply when operating the vehicle - you still get the option there to select autolock when shifting into drive or reaching a certain speed). What I was searching for was a way to prevent auto locking when not in operation, and the new setting meets my needs for that. Again I do not desire my truck to ever lock itself, under any circumstance, except when operating it. Simple as that. If anyone would like to know the exact setting for making that happen, let me know and I will lay it out for you. Peace and Harmony prevailing, I am going to bed. My LSU tigers are getting hammered:eek:

Hi 22Plat: So my preference does not need to be your preference and I am way ok with you carring keys around, and maybe I would not have needed to find a way to disable this autolocking crap if I were willing to succomb to that way of thinking too. I am a simple man who desires to live my way, without technology deciding how I live my life. I have been locking vehicles for 68 years now and have never found it to be a problem or very challenging and I have always succeeded in getting it locked when I wanted it that way- so my whole point was not to focus on how to overcome someone elses idea that autolocking ought to be in my life - but to rather focus on how to eliminate it from my life. My personal decision - I do not want anyone to think I am trying to suggest anyone else make this choice - it is simply mine and I like the outcome just fine in this case. For edification, I carry my keys too, except when I am home, because the first thing I do is dump all my stuff and change clothes, so carry nothing when home except a cold beer. I am a pretty serious tinkerer so I carry the bulk of my tools in my truck. I have at any one time 100 tinker projects going on in 5 homes, camps, boats, barns etc. in case you don't think I should carry my tools in my truck(that would also be a solution akin to yours) - that is my reason, as they all require different solutions - or tools at every location. And I do a boat load of stuff at home. So in my original thread I tried to shortcut comments like yours by explaing all this - which is why I am going to great length to "justify" my decision to you here. PLease forgive my directness in this response, but I was only ever asking for help finding out how to disable this software option - not how to live with it. I don't need a computer locking my truck for me. I am an adult with a brain and when I want it locked I will lock it. Otherwise it does not need to be locked. My decision is based on walking back and forth to my truck multiple times a day to find it locked is unacceptable to me. And, honestly, I am the only one who decides how I handle it. In addition to following your advice I could simply hire someone to sit in my truck all afternoon unlocking the door every time it auto locks. I could also go get rid of the truck(my 4th Tundar) and neither interests me any more than carrying keys in my fishing shorts all afternoon long in order to get into my autolocked truck every time I want to retrieve or return a tool. My solution consists of killing autolock. I don't want it. I don't need it. And I choose not to have it. That my brother - is the whole point -not how everone elses works or how you choose to live with it. Peace out.

I have to use the key fob to lock mine after parking, it will not lock itself. At least that how it’s been since new in July.
I have noticed my Toyota app showing the truck was locked and it wasn’t. Left the ket in the house to check and confirmed it was not locked. I don’t know why that was but good to know that it happened.

22 Plat.....Mine never locks on it's own. I have to manually lock each time. Like everyone else, contact dealer or look in the app

Can dealer change a setting? Nothing in the app.
