Hello, Toyota wanted to charge me $150 for a 20000 mile fuel injector cleaning. I declined, but wonder what the best practice is. I use 87 octane fuel and my general mileage is 19.5 mpg, and 12.5 mpg when towing a 7000 lb trailer camper. Please name a product I should use (maybe what Toyota uses). Also should I add it to the oil as well as the fuel?
I am confused whether this is needed at all and whether it is preventative. Thank you. All advice is appreciated.

Probably won’t hurt, probably won’t help. Using a quality gasoline is probably all that’s needed. Techron is a proven additive that prevents carbon buildup.

It is a sales gimmick and not needed. Just more bucks in their pockets.

    Nitrogen filled tires!
Just put a bottle of SeaFoam through it (in your gas tank) every 5k miles. Dealer is there to make $$ and their product is no better but cost you a shit load more.

Do NOT add it to your oil. If you have oil going through your fuel injectors you are already FUBAR!

If "cleaning the fuel injectors" isn't spelled out in the maintenance schedule you don't need to do it. Only thing I see in the schedule is to add Toyota EFI tank additive or equivalent (Hawaii only). Unless you're in Hawaii its not required, if you are then its required every 5000 miles.

When you have 100,000 miles on it, then you should use it.

Also save the $133.50 in markup and labor and order a bottle to the parts counter and dump er in the tank when you leave.

Also....$133.50 to dump a bottle of cleaner in the tank???? WTF?? Once that bad boy is out of warranty or free oil changes I wouldn't go back to that stealership.
