I have had my new 2022 Tundra Limited Crew Cab TRD for about 8 months, I am now at 16.5k miles. Not impressed so far. I have owned 2 prior Tundras and Lexus LX 470's and the quality of this truck is slipping. The side of the seat broke after about 5k miles. I like the new engine, better gas mileage, electronics are awesome, great style, but overall just not as solid as the other Tundras I have owed. For the price, should be made more solid.

Seat base notwithstanding, what else is "not solid"

Also, a section of the trim on top of tailgate has come loose, overall the truck feels not as solid as my other tundras. I still have my 2016 tundra limited crew cab. Example, when I shut the doors the old tundra just feels much more solid built overall. Hard to explain.

Obviously I don't know but looks to be from some sort on impact. Does not look like the other ones I have seen on here w/a vertical crack.

Yeah OP doesn't seem too keen on answering that I've. I know there have been issues with that part of the seats but I have to wonder if it was self inflicted

I’ve seen the plastic seat trim crack, but yours is a perfectly cut square. Super weird.

And the piece that broke went into the hole like it was done from the outside.

I put hands on a new 2022 this morning. Quick walk around, truck looked nice but noticed the sheet metal is way thinner than my 2016. I could easily push in the hood and door panels with a little pressure from my thumb. They felt thin, pushed in about 1/8th, 1/4 inch very easily.

The bed caps were loose. Seemed like they would rattle when driving. They were attached, clipped in. Pushed on one slightly with my thumb and it popped right off! It clipped right back in, so working as designed but was very loose and ill fitting.

Certainly didnt expect a 50-60k SR5 truck to feel like that, kinda cheap. I would be disappointed if it was my truck and the price they are going for.

Honestly, this is the direction that all trucks are going. Everything will get cheaper, weaker and softer.

I checked the hood and rear door panels, same give in both areas, again much thinner metal than what I expected based on earlier toyotas I own, a 2006 and 2016. Guess it is the new normal across manufacturers.

I think part of the reasoning is that for most people who only use their truck to get groceries, don't drive off road etc (myself included not flaming anyone) it is fine and lighter than metal meaning better fuel economy.

That being said I can understand people not being impressed

the main reason and likely only reason is CAFE, they had to lighten it up, has nothing to do with off-road

It looks like it initially cracked horizontally, and he made it worse messing with it.
