Weighed our 2022 SR5 2WD CrewMax Tundra with two people, 30 gallons of fuel, camping gear in bed, while connected to our travel trailer.

The trailer's tongue weight came in a little light, but still had about 50 pounds of gear to load in front (tongue end) of travel trailer and 50 pounds of gear to load in the Tundra's back seat after the rig was weighed before a camping trip.

Additional 50lbs of weight in the front of the trailer will put the tongue weight within 9% to 11% required trailer tongue weight.

The trailer was under 5000 pounds and did not require a WDH. The Tundra handled the trailer great without WDH. I have an electronic sway control on the trailer's tongue that applies trailer's brakes if there is a sway event.

Found running in 8th gear around 65MPH on the interstate in non-mountainous area yielded about 14MPG.

You're being responsible in your choice of trailer. The Oliver is toward the aerodynamic side of the travel trailer shapes. In my opinion you would notice a difference in handling if using a properly adjusted WDH rated for 6,000 lbs.
    Your MPG is pretty good.

Our Tundra has about 1600 miles so far, believe after complete engine break-in it will do a little better on fuel economy, will see.

Wow the 22 tundra is basically the same exact weight as my 2010. I figured they would make it lighter

I pull this. Close to 6,000#. I may get 11-11.5 MPG at 65 with no wind. I say may since I seem to attract headwinds.20211013_134232.jpg

The GVW was 7100lbs on my 2016 4X4 Tundra. With the same trailer connected to the 2016 Tundra, it would come close 7100lbs with trailer connected when I added my Gen-set & portable solar panel in the pickup bed.

Should come in at least 200lbs under 6990 GVW with same trailer connected with same solar panel and ge-set in the pickup bed. Looks like this Tundra is going to be a fine TV for my rig & gear, time will tell!

Thank you. I agree about the front half but that trailer is butt-ugly. Comfortable living for the two of us and the Lab but the looks make me think potatoes. :eek2:

Been experimenting using cruise control while towing our camper with over 10,000 miles on the Tundra’s odometer at the end of this trip.

Tundra’s on board MPG indicator is accurate and was used for the following two test using cruise control. Both of the following test were over 300 miles each on interstate/4 lane highways.

2022 2WD SR5 Tundra with street tires on Tundra & Camper. TV tire pressures 40 PSI and Camper’s tire pressures 50 PSI. Camper's weight between 4900 to 4950 pounds with empty grey and black water tanks. Rig weight is around 10,900 pounds. Check Rig & TV/Camper weights periodically with CAT scales.

Set cruise at 63MPH yielding 61MPH GPS speed. Tow haul mode used with 7th gear. Engine speed was 2150 RPM.

During the test while climbing a 5% grade reduced speed to 55MPH and dropped down to 6th gear.

One way test from Crossville TN (TN plateau area) to Denver NC yielded 15.8 MPG.

Round trip from Crossville TN to Howenwald TN and back to Crossville yielded 15.5 MPG.

Should see better MPG in the flat lands, will see.

Test today on hilly & flat terrain.

Towed our camper from Elkins, NC to Denver, NC today (75 miles). Ran 55MPH on 2 & 4 lane roads and 61MPH on interstate in 7th gear seeing 2200 RPM, using cruise control on interstate. Have over 13,000 miles on this 2WD SR5 Tundra. Got 17MPG today!

Here's the latest CAT scale results ready to camp except 75 pounds of gear to be loaded in the cab with empty black, grey, and fresh water tanks.

Do you have a WDH? The axle weights with the trailer look a little far apart.

Don't use a WDH with this rig, it handles and stops great. Would use WDH if the trailer's ready to camp weight was above 5,000 pounds as required by the Tundra's operators manual. This is probably one of the lightest LE2 Ollies around. Replaced lead acid batteries with a single 100AH lithium battery, keep trailer spare tire in truck bed and reduced LP tank sizes reducing ready to camp weight.

Installed electronic sway control on the trailer tongue that applies trailer brakes during a sway event, but no sway issues with about 50,000 miles with this trailer so far, mostly towing it with a 2016 5.7L Tundra. Sway device is required for trailers above 2,000 pounds as per the Tundra's operators manual.

Installed Timbren SES rear suspension upgrade for towing a trailer, reduces sag. 480 pounds difference between front & rear axle with this trailer connected with 480 pounds of trailer tongue weight.

It was easy, installed two sets on other trucks in the past and this was the easiest installation so far. Replace existing jounce blocks with Timbren units next to differential coil springs. Use three existing bolts from original jounce blocks with Timbren SES system. No drilling or cutting. Used a bottle jack on the trailer hitch a jacked very little to allow additional clearance during installation.

I keep the Tundra's bed loaded with camping gear always. Don't have air-gap between the Timbren rubber block and differential that that creates a firmer ride in this situation. The Timbren units are designed to have an air-gap when empty so you have a better ride.
