    Our 2022 2WD SR5 Tundra Crewmax has a 5.5' bed.

Decided to weigh the Tundra at a CAT scales on the way home today from a Toyota dealer with a new Toyota bed cover and new Toyota bed mat loaded in the bed. Already installed Toyota sideboards last week. Had 29 gallons of fuel in the 32 gallon tank. Two people on board with a combined weight of 320 pounds.

    CAT Scales results:

    Front Axle 3200 pounds

    Rear Axle 2560 pounds

    Total Weight 5760 pounds

    This Tundra:

    GVW Weight 6990 pounds
    Maximum front axle 4080 pounds
    Maximum rear axle 3860 pounds
    Load Capacity 1400 pounds

Very pleased with CAT scales results, next time will weigh Tundra and travel trailer after getting 1000 miles on the Tundra.

If you have scale results, please post them, too!

The published curb weight is: 5160 pounds for a 2WD SR5 Crewmax 5.5' bed

The CAT scale weight above included two people (320 pounds), 29 gallons of fuel (174 pounds), sideboards I installed, bed cover in the bed to be installed, Toyota floor mats installed, and bed mat in the bed to be installed. Not sure if published curb weight includes full gas, but the 32 gallon tank on the SR5 is optional.

Happy with the 5760 pound weight with a 6990 pound GVW!

I think the curb weight should include a full tank of gas. So add another 20 lbs for 3 more gallons of gas then subtract 320 lbs for occupants, it seems to me like your payload capacity is more like 1530 lbs than the 1400 lbs on your door sticker.

When I first saw 1400 pound payload capacity on the door sticker while picking up the Tundra, wanted to weigh the Tundra to see how it weighed in with accessories. Last accessory to add will be mudflaps. :)

The other thing I'd be interested to know is what, if any, mechanical differences there are to give the various GVWRs (e.g. some hybrids have up to 7800 lbs, if I recall correctly). If there's no difference, could you buy a bare bones SR5 and treat it like it has a GVWR of 7790 lbs? That should give you almost 2400 lbs of payload.

Next time I weigh the Tundra it will be at camping weight with a 4900 pound camper with 480 pound tongue weight. Plan to weigh the complete rig and only Tundra to get accurate rig & Tundra total weights with trailer connected and disconnected. Next step will be evaluating rig towing MPG. :)

After reading the GVW on the higher trim levels, they will have respectful load capacities, too. Bottom line, bare bones SR5 will share some of the same components that handle higher loads with higher trim levels, but Toyota has SAE tow rating considerations, believe that's why they are conservative posting capacities.

I am curious how much the new powerplant/transmission weight compared to the outgoing stuff... Anyone have info on that?

    My DC 2wd weighs 5170 with a 6900gvwr
Payload is listed at 1540 or 70(cant remember)

I don't have those weights, but here is CAT scale results with my former 2016 4X4 5.7L Tundra DC 6.5' bed (with camping gear) with 4900 pound travel trailer:

That is impressive. Do you have any modifications to your car? As far as I know, a Toyota Tundra weighs around 5000 lbs. If you have a full tank, it can weigh more. Also, it depends on the weight scale you are using to weigh your car. There are different companies that make different scales, and not all of them show the exact weight of your car. You can find more information related to this topic on the internet. I suggest you visit another car service and weigh your car again.

How do you figure 5000 lbs? If the door sticker on mine is accurate, its curb weight was closer to 6000 lbs when it left the factory.

Here's the latest CAT scales results on my 2022 SR5 2WD Tundra with two people, 30 gallons of fuel, camping gear in bed of pickup with and without travel trailer connected. After these CAT results to go on a camping trip, I needed to load 50 pounds of gear in the back seat area of the Tundra and 50 pounds of gear in the front of the travel trailer that would also keep the travel trailer tongue weight within 9% to 11% of trailer weight as recommended in the Tundra's operators manual:

Using a 7500 pound capacity 2" ball on a forged ball mount. The new Tundra handled this rig fine without WDH. Not using a WDH since the trailer weight came in under 5000 pounds, where the Tundra is required to have a WDH above that weight.. The way I interpret the operators manual when towing a trailer over 2000 pounds a trailer sway device is required either with WDH or another device. I use an electronic Swaymaster trailer tongue mounted sway device that applies trailer brakes if there is a sway event.

No problem, when I post something always see thing to edit.

I did have some sag, but the rig handles safely without WDH and meets trailer towing requirements of the Tundra's operators manual without WDH. I always install Timbren suspension enhancement or air bags on my TV rear axles, and plan to install when available on the aftermarket. The Toyota rear differential air bags would be a nice option to have and are not installed on my Tundra.

Here's a shot with the trailer connected:

    Thanks,

Our trailer has great towing manners. Towed it many thousand miles in the lower 48. Our new Tundra was purchased as a TV and is making a nice daily driver, too. Getting 19MPG around town and 22MPG highway. So far 14MPG towing this travel trailer and hoping to get 15MPG towing this trailer, will see!

I weighed my fully loaded Limited Crewmax 4x4 TRD Off-road with with Pano sunroof (200lbs+), TRD step boards (about 40lbs), 92lbs of extra tire weight (23 per corner), and me (180 lbs) in it with 1/2 tank of fuel (about 100 lbs less compared to a full tank).

    6000 lbs total
    3460 lbs Front axle
    2540 lbs Rear axle

    GVWR is 7230lbs
With me in the truck and a full tank, my max payload will be 1130lbs. Plenty, as this truck is a recreational vehicle for me.

Also pleased with our first CAT scales results of our 2022 2WD SR5 Tundra Crewmax, in original post while on the way home from the Toyota dealer with bed mat and bed cover in the pickup bed (still in packing material) with two people on board (weighing 320 pounds combined) and 29 gallons of fuel ( 3 gallons or 18 pounds less than full tank) onboard and I had already installed Toyota sideboards, the Tundra came in 1230 pounds under GVW.

Here's latest scale results for our 2022 SR5 2WD Crew Cab Tundra after installing Toyota side rails, Toyota folding hard bed cover, Toyota bed mat, Toyota Mud guards, and Timbren SES rear suspension kit. Weighed the Tundra with all contents removed, full 32 gallon fuel tank, and no occupants.

    Timbren rear differential SES system:

    GVW 6990 pounds

    New Curb weight 5440 pounds

    Payload 1400 pounds from Toyota

The new curb weight did not decrease payload by subtracting new curb weight from GVW:

GVW 6990 pounds - New Curb weight 5440 pounds = 1550 pounds o_O I'm sticking with the original 1400 pound payload.

There is air gap between the differential and Timbren SES blocks if the Tundra is unloaded giving a normal ride on the regular suspension. We keep camping gear loaded in the bed all of the time so the ride is firmer than a unloaded Tundra with Timbren.

Why stick to the sticker value? You know you could go up to 1550 lbs. Payload value is meaningless. GVWR is the important number.

I was told that my TRD Pro (Crewmax + short bed) is over 3 ton (over 6600 lbs), so I still need to pay for the sticker in Ontario, Canada... sad

You’re right about using 1550 pounds. I’m conservative in my approach to mechanical things, but 1550 pounds is the correct payload.

Would like to see other scale results, too.

Looks like Toyota was conservative with your payload weight too! Toyota increased GVW for higher trim levels compensating for additional equipment. Thanks for posting!

Toyota is conservative with literally every Tundra considering they are just pulling the payload sticker number from one of ~15 options they have in some excel spreadsheet.

Thats funny, your sticker is almost identical to my 2014 F150, also with a full tank. 3440 and 2700 for 6140 total.

3900 on the front and 4050 in the rear. Some F150's had a 4050 lb front axle as well but I dont know what determined that they got it, because mine has the max tow package which is what gives me a 7700 lb GVWR and 4050 rear axle. It seemed random.
