On October 19th 2023 my 2022 Tundra had a engine failure at 36,328 miles. I brought the truck to the dealership that I purchased the vehicle from. It took Toyota 104 days to repair my vehicle, I currently have a Lemon Lawyer due Toyota only wanting to rebuild the engine or I had to pay the negative equity for the buyout.

I pulled up Carfax last night and the repair work was listed so I know if I ever trade the truck in I will get screwed. Can anyone tell me how much will my truck depreciate due to the vehicle having a rebuilt engine?

Service paper work of repairs are attached. Truck currently has 36,790 miles on it.

$27,562 worth of repairs just an FYI

Something like that tied to my vehicle would definitely warrant my not talking to anyone but my lawyer. I call bullshit on being treated like that and I would not have paid a penny towards any of the damages. This whole thing has lemon written all over it. No idea Toyota would fuck everyone the way they are but hey, "it's the new norm" WTFever

You would think the dealer that did that rebuild would gladly take it in on trade and try to capitalize on the “new engine” and possibly warranty the work for the next owner. But like @azTony said, no one seems to stand behind their work anymore.

I do have to say the Toyota Dealership that I purchased the truck from covered all the labor, parts, and my rental under their warranty. It’s Toyota’s Corporate office that is fighting back. My Lawyer asked that I call a few dealerships or bring my truck asking about an appraisal and don’t mention the truck having a rebuilt engine.

So far I have been to 4 different dealers today and as soon as they pulled the Carfax up and seen the service report the value dropped tremendously. The lowest I was offered was $23,000 and the highest offer was $28,000. They said due to the repairs it will be hard to sell the truck so it would sit on the lot for a while.

Sounds to me like that is all the evidence your lawyer needs to go after them since you are taking the hit and not them. Really sorry to hear about your experience

The conversation needs to be about diminished value...honestly I'd take a chance at $30k for a $60k truck with a new factory engine...as long as they make it Toyota Certified with the 6 year 100k warranty...but most consumers would not be interested...still sounds like a lowball to me but sounds like Toyota needs to buy out your truck or write you a nice fat check.

Lemon law the SOB and be done with it. This should be an easy case for any lawyer. Do it now or you will loose your arse in this deal unless you plan to keep it till it dies? It will die around 150K miles anyway, just turbo life LOL.

@azTony I don’t know if it would effect your vehicle insurance at all.

@JohnWhicker The lawyer contacted me today and he got the repurchase letter from Toyota late this evening. So he is going to review it and if offer seems good then he will send it to me tomorrow to see if I approve. So

Told you so, is an easy one to fix. Make sure you sweat the SOB's for putting through this. Get an upgrade :) I would.

I remember 20 years ago I had Volvo C70 lemon, and when the dealer called me I asked them to talk to my lawyer. 10 days later I was picking up a brand new C70 after one year and 10K miles delaying with a just bad luck lemon.

I was referring to if something major happened like a total, would they see that on your file and give you a reduced amount to cover your losses? Just thinking out loud of things I would not be happy with.
