2023 Platinum Max mood lighting stopped working

Hello all,

I have a 23 platinum with the blue mood lighting in the door panel and dash. It’s dark in this truck and I appreciated the little bit of extra light. The lights used to be on all the time unless I hit the mood switch, even driving at night.

About two weeks ago they stopped working while on a long trip. The dealer tells me the master tech says the mood lights only operate when the headlights are off and vehicle is in park. Makes me think I’m crazy remembering them being on all the time, especially because I disliked them in the beginning.

1. they are on all the time, even when driving at night, right?

2. Anyone else have issues with the mood lighting not working? It will turn on sometimes when I open the door, but turns off immediately after starting the truck. Mood button does nothing.

Yes, you are correct. The lights operate when you are driving at night, the dealer is full of sh**.

 

You may already know this, but there's an interior lighting brightness control button on the dash to the left side of the steering wheel. If you adjust the lighting to the lowest level, the mood lighting turns off.

2023 Platinum owner here as well....My blue lights work when the headlights are on....You can push the "mood" switch up by the sunroof and adjust 3-4 levels of brightness and I am pretty sure if you push the "mood" button, the lights will turn on regardless if the headlights are on or not....

However....The other day I went to move my truck into my garage, the auto headlights came on since it was dark and NO MOOD LIGHTING on...So I thought that's weird and pushed the "mood" switch and they would not turn on at all....Then the next day they blue lights worked fine... So IDK, glitch maybe???

Also the drivers side seat extender button on my Platinum equally has a mind of its own....sometimes it will extend out, sometimes not....IDK....

 

Thanks, Matt, I did not know that. Seems there are now three possible ways to affect the mood lighting;

1. button by sunroof
2. Auto off interior light timer in settings
3. Full din of instrument panel.

I am going to test the instrument panel dimmer out this evening. I did notice it after a long trip driving at night, and I recall adjusting the dimmer. Probably the problem. Will update.

I also have thought it might be a glitch, because they only sporadically work, but never while driving anymore. Going to adjust the instrument cluster dimmer switch and see if that helps.

FYI, you don't have to wait until evening to test it. Just start your truck, turn the headlights on, then adjust the dimmer. You should be able to see the mood lighting turn on.

I believe my 24 Platinum mood lights come on in the day. You just have to look real close to see if they are on. I could see they were on when I was doing the setup at the Dealership. I have not checked again in the day light.

Update, tried the instrument cluster dimmer. That is not the cause. Called Toyota, they troubleshot the settings-vehicle customize-lights-interior lights - auto off timer to off. Also did not change anything.

they ended up transferring me back to the dealer. I have a sense this won’t resolve, but now we at least have a thread documentation if people in the future have issues. I’ll update as I go.

That doesn't turn them off. Just tried it, doesn't even dim them

 

Actually don't even have to open the door..... On mine if the truck is locked and you walk up to the door with the key in your pocket they will come on. That may be a setting in the menus you can toggle.

 

Don't know what to tell you. It doesn't dim mine either, but it does turn the mood lights off on the lowest setting.

My driver seat extender also has a mind of it's own.

Never had an issue wit the mood lighting. It's always on for me. Bummer the dealer is telling lies.

 

Just got a 2024.. had same wtf issue.

Solved.

Go to touch screen Settings

Vehicle Customize

Lights

AUTO OFF TIMER.

PUT ON 7.5 SECONDS.

WILL IMMEDIATELY TURN ON and stay on.

This setting has to be on for the button to have any functionality at all.

I can not speak as to pre 2024 on the interior lights dimmer button turning the mood lights off but it doesn't have any effect on the 24.
