Toyota is definitely going bonkers with their pricing. They are placing themselves in the high end luxury suv market of Mercedes, BMW, etc... If your going to drop $80K on a sequoia, I think most people would cross shop other brands. Sad to see that.

sequoias have always been pricier than the Tundras by a good margin. But yes, 60k+ for SR5 is a hard swallow. With every passing day it looks like I will be keeping my truck longer and longer.

    Its depressing honestly.

At some point its gotta break. There is only so many people that can afford to purchase $60k+ vehicles regularly.

So far, the most expensive vehicle I have purchased was my F150 at $42k. Every other car I have bought was literately 1/2 that price or less(my 2006 GTO was the second most and I believe it was $21,500?) and I am an engineer making a decent wage with a wife who also makes a decent wage.

MSRP actually hasn’t jumped as much as I expected. MSRP on our 2019 Platinum 4wd Sequoia was $71,262.00. Problem is we didn’t pay anywhere near that for it. These won’t sell below that, and most dealers will definitely mark it up from there.

Keep in mind that all 2023 Sequoias are hybrid. I imagine that adds significantly to the cost.

True, but the biggest problem I see is what’s going on the East coast and West coast of this country. Housing prices through the roof. People still buying them. In my area, 500k doesn’t get you into a nice area for single family home. You want really good school districts be prepared, $800k-$1.2mill. Most of the homes being bought are young couples. Granted living in this area had perks, but the cost of living is high. Your right of course car/trucks have gone insane in pricing as well. Everyone is mortgaged to the hilt. Waiting to see when all this blows up.

Historically there’s been a lot more room to negotiate on Sequoias than Tundras which closed the gap, but not so anymore.

it does and doesn’t. Toyota is probably one of the manufacturer’s with the jump on hybrid technology. With the amount of volume they sell, you would think they could lower the prices down. It’s all about greed my friend, unfortunately it will get to a point, where the average person won’t buy a new car.

damn i was close. I think I had said that the base price would jump about 15% (around $7500) for the base model. base sr5 2wd was about $50,500 i think for 2020/2021.
i'm honestly surprised the capstone isn't pushing 90k for MSRP. this is pretty on par with the tundra pricing increases from 2.5 gen to 3rd gen IMO.
cool find and thnx for putting info out.

    edit to add:
i don't see anything on market adjustments for Lunar Rock/Pro colors.:crapstorm:

Id bet there will be market adjustments on all of them. This was on Edmunds. Weird how the higher trim levels have lower increases.

Imagine if you could buy 5 comparable homes in a desirable neighborhood and then a few months later overpay on another one by $100-150k, bringing your other five homes’ values up instantly. :eek2:

Just from a quick glance it looks like they’re in line with their Chevy and GMC counterparts. Still cheaper than they were selling Land Cruisers for. Last one of those I looked at was 90k in 2019.

Can't knock on those land cruiser quality control thou, and yes, the competition is the wagoneer/expedition/Tahoe , if you shop amongst those, the base Sequoia actually is a good value, non-pro trim will probably yield similar mileage as the gm twins with duramax without the diesel hassle, yet similar towing as the ford, only the interior is bit meh for that price.

I have to say I'm tempted.

I agree. I'm interested in what the TRD sport with leather package will cost on the Sequoia, for the Tundra its roughly $4,000.

That'll create "demand destruction", applies to many things....

Personally I never buy New, I like to let others take the depreciation hits, I like to buy a vehicle with 85% of its life left for 50% of original price, woohoo...

    Too many, but not enough....
Right now my 21 appreciated in value lol, I can make money on if I sell it, i never would since there are so many upgrades on it that take the price up past even what this ridiculous market would pay for it.

we don't get leather package up in Canada, I think my ideal trim would be base 4x4 with big screen, non-powered 3rd row, put 4runner TRD sema wheels on and rock 255/75r17 basic all terrains , 25mpg all day long and no DEF to worry about.

Just paid $88K Canadian ($67K US) out the door for my brand new 2022 TRD PRO in Lunar Rock to replace my 2012 SR5 Sequoia (I got 65% of what I paid for my 2012 new when I sold it 2 months ago - insane).

Like a poster above, these prices are unsustainable. Especially when you consider that with the EV or hybrid push, most of these vehicles come with a pretty hefty 8-10 year maintenance anchor around your neck (the cost of replacing the battery and major electrical components).

As vehicle manufacturers become tech companies, I fully expect the push for engineered obsolescence to speed up for vehicles, ie, buy it and drive it for 8-10 years and then the cost of repairs and compatibility upgrades will force you to replace it.

I bought my house in 2015 for 330k. This summer when I refied it, it appraised for 780k. I think its probably higher now.

It'll be tough pill to swallow when the 23 Sequoia has the recall issues that the Tundra is having now. I'd be beside myself if my $80k vehicle had any issues at all for the first 5 years.
