I think I went like 40,000 miles between changes. Was expecting it to look quite a bit worse.

    New vs old

Bottom of the air box. There’s no water or mud in there - but no dust either. I was shocked. I must not be pushing the truck to its limits! Time to go even harder.

I’ve never seen a man enjoy abusing a new truck so much. :)

I've never had Toyota refuse to do warranty work on my Tundra.
But then again, it's never needed warranty work in 95K miles..

    This is the way.

The thread will be considered incomplete until mod intrusion has occurred.

A previous turbo gas car I had was very finicky with even a slightly dirty air filter. Performance noticeably fell off. Turbos don’t like to fight for air. My truck came with the TRD washables but there are quite a few reports of Gen3 owners picking up an extra 1mpg switching to cotton washables. YMMV.

Where you live is definitely a factor. Living in more northern states or Canada where dust is not an ever hampering factor, longer intervals may be OK. Living here in Phoenix where you get to drive through a couple of haboobs a year and with pretty much 365 days of some blowing dust much, MUCH more frequent changes are in order.

Did you see any increases in MPG when you put in new filters after 40k miles?

Absolutely agree. I remember pictures of giant home brew pre-filters people had put on there vehicles after Mt St Helen’s in 1980. Can’t imagine dealing with that.

I lived in Litchfield Park for years. Had to vacuum out my computer all the time. Here is SC, I get very little dust in my computer or my air cleaner. I use my leaf blower on the Tundra air filter and it looks good as new
