Hit a chicken and broke part of the lower grill. Can just that section be replaced and does anyone know the part number? Thanks.

installed a light bar and be done with the replacement.

light bar probably be cheaper than to replace just that part since you have to buy a whole grille?

not sure, have to ask roman

I agree with others. Slap a light bar in there. It's easy, fixes your problem (you're already half way there with the cutting), and it adds functionality.

If you don't want to go that route, then it looks like you're in for a bit of a project. That grill "lattice" work (I'll call it that) is actually part of the larger lower grill support structure. You'd be taking off most of the front clip to replace that.

52117f is a general part number for the front bumper used for various Toyota models? Am I missing something?

You've got to navigate the parts.toyota.com system.

I'll save you a little time though. Here's the direct link to the part # (521170C040): https://parts.toyota.com/p/Toyota_2...t-Rail-Front--Upper/105892805/521170C040.html

Check out the sticky thread at the top of the forum by @shifty`: HOWTO: Use the Toyota Parts system to find & order parts. That will help for future parts queries.

I think the confusion was the image doesn’t show the grill cross hatch pattern on the diagram. Thanks for the help!

The parts diagrams aren't the highest res images, but it's there.

    upload_2023-3-14_10-53-19.jpg

I know because I've dismantled & reinstalled the grill twice as I've done some front upgrades. Pic of the backside of my grill when I had it off. The yellow part is the grill work that you've damaged (the chicken) and the red outline is the support structure.

So, is the yellow lower grille part available separately or just come with that entire assembly? Just curious.

Most other parts are available separately. However, that particular grill work is part of the mold of that entire support assembly:

That's what I figured since there was no pop out for it. Who'd have thunk they'd make it like that? Oof.

I agree. That type of stuff should really be a sub section with separate fasteners for easy replacement. It's also quite pricy. Maybe $20 or $30 in raw plastic but the MSRP is well over $400. Though I'm sure you could find it cheaper on sale by cross shopping dealership.

But at least now we know why the chicken crossed the road... to break the OP's Tundra grille.

Looking at it the grille area appears to be snapped in from behind but not sold as a separate part number. Kroppduster you are the man!

If there is any silver lining, it's that replacing this is pretty easy. Tons of people have done grill swaps so there's a lot of documentation & many YT vids about dismantling the front. It's an easy job. Just time consuming. Give yourself a six pack and about an afternoon...you'll knock it out easily.

I’ve replaced body and interior panels before and torn dirt bikes down to the frame. Think I can handle those pesky bolts and plastic clips

Pro tip: when you hit on women, don't use the front of a Tundra. Be gentle!

In the 90s some would put Home Depot chicken wire mesh in our Hondas.

Finally swapped it out. About 25 screws and clips, it’s not hard but tedious. Took a good two hours and a few beers to swap it out. Would classify as a medium difficulty just cause of all the clips and stuff that could break during the process. Didn’t feel like putting a light bar and hacking up the bumper and wiring. Not sure how much longer I’ll own this truck.

For a full size truck the bumper support is very thin plastic like a kids toy lol

I'd say thats some thin plastic too .... how much are the replacements?

Toyota should be ashamed of the strength of these grills. There's some expensive hardware in that nose that needs protection!
Now if they make things thin and fragile, then produce those parts in large amounts (making it cheap)
At least people wouldnt be that annoyed. Wonder what the aftermarket world is going to do.

This 10lb piece of pavement got kicked up by a tractor trailer in front of me. Went right through the fog light in my 2014 Platinum Tundra. This was a $1500 repair caused by a few dollars of asphalt. :itllbuffout:
