Just joined the forum and hoping someone has some insight on this gas tank issue.

First of all, I'm waiting for the dealership to get a part that allows the button on the dash to pop open the gas tank. That stopped working recently for no reason but apparently they are having a heck of time getting the part. I can open the tank manually by pulling the lever hidden below close to the tire. Anyone had this issue or need this part replaced?

Second, the Distance to Empty is reading like I'm low on gas. It isn't increasing at all when I add fuel to the tank and it is decreasing at a much slower rate than the actual distance I am driving. In other words, I may drive 5 miles for it to tick down 1 mile on the Distance to Empty display. This is a big problem because I have absolutely no idea how much gas I have.

Third, when I refuel if I squeeze the gas pump completely like normal, the pump quickly clicks (like it would if the tank was full) and stops pumping. The only way I can fuel the vehicle is by barely squeezing the pump, which takes forever, and even then it has overflowed a little (I know it isn't full).

It seems like I have stumped the maintenance team at the dealership but wondering if anyone here has had any of these issues. It is making the truck borderline undrivable right now because I just have no clue how much gas I have and how long I can drive for.

DTE can rise and fall somewhat as you drive depending on speed, grade, etc., so what you are seeing may be normal. And realize that DTE isn't really to E, but to ~when the low fuel light comes on. Most of us that happens with about 6 gallons (in 32G tank) remaining.

You say DTE doesn't rise when you add gas?? I don't understand. If it never rises when you add gas it eventually should reach and stay at zero.

Right now it shows I have 8 miles left until empty. If I went to the gas station right now, I would have a hard time putting gas in the car because the pump clicks almost right away just like it would if it were full. Even if I squeezed it slowly and got 10 gallons put into the truck, the distance to empty is not Changing. So I know I have 10 gallons in the truck but my distance to empty is making it look like I’m going to run out of gas in 8 miles. But it’s not going down every mile that I drive. I drive about 5 miles and the distance to empty goes down about 1 mile. So while right this second I know I have gas in the truck, if I were to drive for a week, I would have no idea exactly how much gas is in there

I had the gas door issue. Had to pull the cord behind the wheel well to pop the door open. I also had to trickle the fuel in because it would blow back because my tank wouldn't vent to allow the fuel in because that function is tied to the electronic door. Lucky for me I only fill that thing up every 5-6 weeks so wasn't a giant issue. The part I had in 6 days, installed the next. Dealer said it was a loose wiring harness in the end that caused it. They went to put the new part in to pop the door open and then realized the wiring harness wasn't fully attached to the old part. Been golden ever since.

Edit: I am also in Canada

Slow fueling has been covered on a few threads already. You must push the button on the dash regardless of whether or not the actuator is working to pop the door open. The button also serves to tell the vehicle to depressurize the fuel system to refuel. As far as DTE readings, the dealer needs to address that issue, but it sounds like a fuel level sensor and/ or fuel sending unit problem to me. It also might be something in the ECM with how complex the computer systems in vehicles are these days. However, what I think is most likely is it may be because the fuel system is never told to depressurize (my DIC displays "ready to refuel") and therefore never thinks fuel has been added, what little you're able to get in there, to adjust the DTE accordingly.

In my case pushing that button did jack all due to the loose harness not being able to communicate with the tank.

Well, of course. It has to be plugged in to work.
