Hey everybody, first time poster. And unfortunately it’s not good. I’ve got a 24 capstone won’t start. First time this happened was Christmas Eve. After sitting a bit, tow driver arrived and she started right up making me question myself. But then it happened again and worse two days ago. She won’t start and seems to be electrical/power issue but who knows. I can’t have it towed because she won’t go into neutral. Tow driver said call Toyota and tell them to come get her. Super bummed, I paid way too much feria for this to be happening.

What is going on with it? Will it crank, no start? No crank? Is it hybrid or gas? Anything showing up on the dash? Is the dash even showing anything?
I've had this problem with my hybrid, no start, nothing showing up on the screens. Battery was totally depleted from me sitting in it messing with the features in accessory mode. Then did a little wiring and left an auxiliary switch on that drained it beyond it being able to display anything. Quick jump with my jump pack and I was back on the road. As for the tow driver not being able to tow it, don't you have roadside assistance from Toyota with the towing for 2 years? Surprising that if you called Toyota for the tow that the driver was clueless.

Might just be a bad battery. Push Button Start Toyotas cut off the starter circuit if the voltage is even a little below 12V. ((Tow driver was a Noob. Everyone knows how the shift a locked shifter into Neutral))

Hi everyone, thank so much for your support and advice. I do have Toyota Roadside, and the driver cannot tow it without a wheel mover and dollies. Reason being, even in N, the parking brake is electric, and automatically engages when you go into P. So yes I put her in N, but then she would not budge due to e brake. I got a new driver to come out, he boosted it via the battery under the seat. I got her started and drove to Toyota. I let them know about a few issues or concerns outside of starting problem. Like, when in D and at a drive thru, I could hear the strangest noise. IT was a rough gurgling noise, I knew it was not normal, despite this being my first hybrid, it just could not sound like this on purpose. And I was notified that the ECM needed updating! That noise has been there the entire time Ive owned it, and I have had it serviced several times, and no one caught that?? Absurd to me. She runs like a different truck now. Seriously, I could hear the difference when they drove it up to me to pick her up yesterday. I was amazed, she sounded beautiful. And I am certain that led to the issues of not turning over. They never saw issue with it not starting.
Which leads me to question, Would driving with an outdated ECM cause other silent for now negative affects anywhere else?
And also to not, my sound system is so much better now too. The sub is engaged, I don't think it ever was working properly. My daughter and I were severely unimpressed with her sound system compared to my 2010 Lexus, which blew the Tundras out of the water. Weird right?
One other issue I failed to mention, do any of you experience a hard shift into and out of P? Like it sounds as though I am gonna drop the tranny, so CLUNK!! I think it's worse going into P from R. Should I bring this up to them?
I had to have my driver seat motor replaced, it sounded like I was grinding rocks when adjusting it. That is taken care of now. All in all, I am satisfied, but not 100% feeling solid with this purchase. Which should not be the case at the price tag I paid for my very first brand new automobile purchase, especially a Toyota. Paranoid she is hiding major issues and I won't discover them until it's me on the line for the bill.
    thanks again.

No no and no, and in that order.
All that you have mentioned except the sound system (which sucks) but none of the kluncking from P to R, and the gurgling...WTF is that? That sounds like a new one to me or the ECM needs updating from what version to what?

This sucks and I feel for ya,the Stealership needs a reality slap in the face.I agree with you 100% it's brand new and all of this nonsense isn't acceptable in the least for a brand new vehicle at this price.
I wouldn't let it fly if it was me, I hate to bring mine in for routine maintenance I don't leave I stay there because I do not trust Stealerships.

BTW welcome to the boards from MA & sorry for the circumstances.

One more thing, maybe I have just been lucky with mine and it's brand new there shouldn't be anything mechanical going wrong for at least several K miles and years, well set aside of the impending doom of engine implosion.
But what you have going on is not right.

Thanks for getting back to us with an update. I'm glad to hear Service is getting things sorted out for you, though it seems there still may be some issues to address. As far as the Clunk goes, no that doesn't sound right, but as mine is not a hybrid I'm not sure what or if there is a difference in the two. Many of the people on the forum "when we're not having a FOOD FIGHT so to speak" are here to learn, support and help when we can in addition to sharing Mods and just good general discussions. To say the least it is very frustrating to buy a new vehicle no matter what the make or trim level and have problems. Just try to hang in there. Sounds like progress is being made. On a side note I will have to read up on the electronic brake thing. I'm thinking you should be able to disengage it manually at the park switch as long as you have some power but I don't know. I'm going to check it out though. Take care.

I have a X6 BMW full time AWD. I have to call a tow company that uses the tow and dollies. Pretty cool how they do it but it’s expensive. Tow is close to $300 for a short distance. Call around and find one that will do it
