I just got my new Lunar Rock tundra.
I was feeling really good about it but there was some wind noise.
I looked on the roof and found that the seal was shredded and popped up out of the track.
Has anyone else had this issue.
I haven't got 300 miles on it yet.
    First tank of gas.

That's insane!!! I would take it right back to the dealer and have the seal replaced!

I bought it about 150 miles from my hometown. It's a Lunar Rock Platinum and aren't many around. The dealer said to take it to the local dealership on Monday. I will.

Wow! I guess I'll be climbing up to check the seal on my 24 Tundra. That is crazy!

Oh geez. I better check mine out. My 24 Pro is having a weird issue where when I get in my truck, the digital rear view mirror doesn’t work and I have to use the optical mirror. I usually just turn it on and off and it works again. I’ve only got 154ish miles on mine. Still on the dealer fill up .

I didn’t spend the money to just swap out stuff.
Maybe the hormones in the mcdonalds eaten by the San Antonio factory workers manifested in the materials used for 2024 models.

That actually looks chewed up; as if the glass or the metal tracks and such are grabbing it and tearing the material as it opens/closes. I wonder if it's not slightly off track or if one of the components of the sunroof's track, etc. are bent just enough to be causing the problem.

Make sure they do a sunroof functionality 'reset' when they do the repair in case something is slightly off w/the cycling of the roof as well. Normally, that would just affect it opening or closing properly or all the way, but who knows.

When you get the truck back, have someone work the sunroof controls while you watch it operate from the outside and make sure you don't see any binding or twisting during the operation and that it 'seats' properly as the glass is closing.

I hope they get you taken care of quickly w/o any headache

Looks like something is eating it up. I had a cardinal attack my 2012 tundra as he saw his own reflection. Shitted up both tow mirrors, chrome bumpers and grill for weeks. Co worker thought I was making up until he parked next to me and it had its way with his truck too.

Mine is not shredded, but went through a touchless wash and the dryer blew the seal out of track. It got really loud all of the sudden. It popped right back into place with little effort. '24 with under 200 miles.

Has anyone found the parts number for the rubber seals/gaskets on the rear portion of the pano roof?

The rats decided to eat mine. OP your seals look the same as mine. I wouldn't be surprised if you have a rodent problem as well.

After months trying to get this resolved nothing has happened.
I drove to Dan Deery in Iowa to get this truck which is about 2 hours form where I live in Minnesota.
Dan Deery said they would replace the outer seal but when they found out that the one bonded to the sunroof glass was bad too the wouldn't do it and said to turn it into my homeowners insurance.
Toyota Customer Service said not to drive back down and take it to a local dealership (Where i have purchased two new Highlanders). I did this and they tried to help said they weren't going to "throw another dealership under the bus". They had no profit from the sale.

Toyota Customer Service looked a a couple pictures from the local dealership and made a decision that it was an outside influence. They looked at the videos I sent but said the dealerships are their eyes and ears on the ground and went by what they told them.

    1. I don't believe this is rodent or bird damage. One seal is like new near and below the adjacent surfaces. Damage is low and below the track and the track has not scratches.
    2. If it was rodent damage when did it happen? In my driveway the mice would have had to jump 7 feet to get up there. Or was it in the train cars shipping container.
    3. Customer service said not to take it back to Dan Deery Toyota so they could look at the damage but then said that they would go with what the dealership said it was. They told me they had never seen anything like it but they were the "experts" on what it probably was. They didn't want to be responsible for the repair costs.

https://photos.app.goo.gl/P2yfddudrcknBkGN6 This is a link of more videos and pictures.

I have a complaint in with the Better Business Bureau which Toyota hasn't responded to, and the Minnesota Attorney General sent Toyota a letter which they haven't responded to.

    So frustrating.

[IMG]This is a vehicle train Shipping container. If this was rodent damage (which I doubt) it most likely happened during shipping.
It was also very hot in Texas when this truck was being built. Heat is one thing that damages rubber along with some solvents.

    upload_2024-1-4_8-15-37.jpg
This is my driveway. When it is parked by the house I didn't see the damage because the truck is taller than I am but when I moved it to the entrance of my driveway it's at an angle I could see the seal out of the track.
I had less than 300 miles on the truck at the time I saw the damage and about 170 miles were driving home from Iowa. Toyota won't own up to the fact that this didn't happen at my house.

So disappointed in Dan Deery Toyota and Toyota Customer service.

That’s incredible; for this to happen on a brand new truck and going on for months is ridiculous. I would be upset too. 300 miles on a $79k truck should be covered…….its a shame. If you file an insurance claim it will be a bit on your policy. That’s a non starter for me. I would run this up the chain and continue to make noise. How hard would it be for you to buy and replace the seal on your own? I know that’s not ideal but if they’re not covering this, surely they won’t cover any leaks that happen as a result of a compromised seal. I would be worried about water intrusion at this point

What year is the build? In some of those images the seal almost looks dry rotted and very old.

I was thinking that too. Either that or some animal got on it and started chewing

But look closely at the pieces that are still intact and not chewed.

They are not chewed, in my opinion and I have a degree in Wildlife and Fisheries Sciences. I do Receiving Quality Control for my job and I see a lot of damage. this is not a rodent problem.
Customer Service told me not to go back to the original dealer because I didn't need to make a 2 hour drive down and back.
Then they tell me they are going by what the dealer recommended and they didn't see the damage.
    Nice.

We don't have mice that can jump up to the roof of a car either. No kangaroo rats!. My Highlander has a panoramic sunroof too and that has no damage.
My truck has been in the same environment here for 3 months with no further damage.

I don't claim to know what did it but no one know where it happened but Toyota says it happened at my house.
Unreal. No one else's vehicles had any damage here.

@Curty I'm with you. That doesn't look like animal damage. Zooming in and looking at the rubber that is less compromised it seems dry rotted or corroded. Almost like it was exposed to some kind of chemical.

You may have to eat it and just get it fixed mostly because if they're giving you a hard time covering the gasket, any water damage they certainly will not cover. That would be my main concern right now just because that gasket is suspect.

i've duct taped the seal so that it is water tight. It's another $2300 dollars to the window and outer seal. That is why Dan Deery Toyota balked at fixing it in the first place.

joescho animals or birds don't pick or chew on one seal and the adjacent seal is untouched. This is in many areas and some of the damage is below the surface and weather checked, or frayed. watch the videos in the link i provided.

2024 Sequoia. Same issue. It is doing this in two places. Part is back ordered and not sure at this point if they are going to cover it. I feel it is a defect as there is nothing to explain how this would be here.

I finally got a response from toyota and they said it was an outside influence and not covered.

Yah that looks like my damage. Toyota says it's an outside influence and won't cover it. Good luck. Maybe your local dealership will step up for you. I have the bumper to bumper warranty too. So much for that.
