My new 2024 Sequoia Capstone (4,000 miles) "Blew Engine" yesterday according to Dealership that we limped into 1/2 mile away. Sudden grinding sound from engine followed by complete failure of engine . Limped on full hybrid mode 1/2 mile. No warning. Pulled oil plug and full of metal shavings. Testing engine down but suspect could be main bearing failure such as 22,23??

Sorry, that sucks. Please keep us informed as you get the diagnosis and fix. Check your state's lemon law as that may be a better solution for you if you qualify. Best of luck.

Any proof you can provide? You are the only New Sequoia owner I have found online to describe this situation. Have been on the fence about buying due to this defect

Holy Moly!!!! That sucks!! On a Capstone at that. That just su:/s!!!!!! So sorry to hear that happened. That’s a lot of money for a vehicle!, one would expect a vehicle like that to last a good long while!!

I do think Toyota has a much bigger problem that they are talking about! In my opinion the 22, 23, and 24s are not to be trusted as a trust worthy automobile with that v6 as a motor. There is just too much going on to overlook what is going on in the bigger picture. I wish y’all the best of luck and hope it all works out. For me I would want my money back and I would be looking for a different vehicle, there is just to much happening across the board.

My "proof" is sitting at dealership in Jefferson Missouri , in the shop, 2 hours away from where I live with body pulled off chassis and "tearing down engine to failure " Toyota engineers supposed to come look at onsite when the engine is torn down. So I haven't seen it since it was left at dealership and was given a Corolla loaner. They called and said 2" chunks of metal in oil pan when pulled and still breaking engine down when they last called on Monday. It's red with white interior, If you want to go look at it , it's not going anywhere

This is a total bummer. This is the link to the Tundra 3.4TT engine failure thread. This is not a discusion thread, just read the first post and put in the information. So sorry this happened to you.

And just think the same engine is on Lexus and LC models - which of course cost even more yet of course are made no better than Toyota - uggg.

So it's likely the problems with the non-hybrid recall apply to the hybrid engines as well...

That’s been my guess. And that 24s are also affected, they just didn’t want do issue a stop sale on all the trucks on the lots

The LC uses the 2.4L 4-cylinder.

I believe they are referring to the 300 series LC, which does use the 3.4L V6.

Wow! that appears to be more damage than the standard #1 bearing failure?

This is what happens when 300+ horses run without lubrication.

Latest update this AM. Service advisor at dealership called to update. Said Toyota engineers have come and gone. Asked what conclusion was. Said you'll have to ask them . They won't share report with dealer...gave me a list of parts they are ordering which I'll try to post, but looks like everything except the heads and manifolds . List includes both turbos which are on back order. Not sure how turbo fails if lower end problems? I guess sudden lockup of gear driven turbo would do that. Service sticking with "debris in engine from manufacturer in Japan" This is what they were saying about " one batch of '22-23 engines that they fixed" well this is a January'24 build. I was hoping Toyota would be transparent because I have owned since the 1990's but this subterfuge has me loosing confidence in a once great company. Leave it to a bunch of corporate lawyers to screw it up. I think this is beyond a bad batch of #1 bearings and rather possibly a low flow Steal issue of oil flow through journal to #1. Assuming that that is what failed on my engine. May never know. Does anyone have good recommendation for lemon law firm?

Turbo bearing is fluid bearing, i.e. using same engine oil and same oil pressure.

My thinking is they should replace them also.

I’m sure that parts list will grow once they begin the job. I wouldn’t be surprised if Toyota eventually packages everything needed for these jobs and has the short block assembly ready to ship.

A long block is the only solution I could live with personally, and I still wouldn’t be at all happy. Sure seems like Toyota is setting the table for short block rebuilds tho. Im hoping for long blocks for everyone that owns one of the recalled models.

    Freaking out now.
22 Tundra that I use mostly around the house in fear that may blow out on me and get me stuck somewhere far from home till Toyota comes up with an answer.
Now, I just got a 24 Sequoia that I plan to use for longer trips and this now ? Man, I feel your pain but this, this can not be explain anymore. I would not take that short block from them no matter what.
$170 Ks in trucks and I am afraid to take it anywhere far from a tow strap ???
    This is wrong Toyota

Toyota issues a stop sale on the 2024 grand Highlander. Not saying there isn’t an issue with the hybrids or the 2024 models but I see this argument all the time and if that was the case they wouldn’t have issued a stop sale on grand highlanders either. The situation does suck for everyone that owns a vehicle with the 3.4TT in it but at the end of the day your options are to ride it out or sell it. In OPs situation I’d look into lemon law since it only has 4k miles and a few months old.
