I’ve owned my 2024 SR5 TRD Off Road for about a month and about 1000 miles. For context, I also own a 2024 TRD Pro Sequoia (my wife’s daily driver). My previous vehicle was a 2020 4Runner with King suspension and 34’s.

Overall I really like the truck, I’ve wanted a pickup again for along time and it was finally possible. So far it’s been quiet in the cab with no strange wind noise that others reports. Interior quality and fit a finish seems similar to my 4Runner and most Toyota’s I’ve seen, lots of plastic, but nothing rattles. Power from the TT V6 is nice, but the hybrid in our Sequoia has noticeably more power.

Really my biggest complaints are the following:
    - The manual adjustable cloth seats; for two reasons. The first is the complete lack of height adjustment. I’m still mad at myself for not noticing that on the test drive. I jumped in grabbed the handle and slid the seat forward and off we went to drive the truck. It wasn’t until I got home that I realized the manual seats lacked this adjustment. I’m 6’ tall and still felt like I sat way too low, it actually hurt my back the way it was. Had I realized this before purchasing, I would have picked a truck with power seats, it’s that big of a deal to me. I fixed it with some seat jackets, I’d say a 90% solution. It’s much better but not perfect. The second is how uncomfortable the cloth is. I had cloth in my 4Runner and it was very soft. This cloth is stiff and scratchy. I have an appointment for Katzkin leather to be installed so that should fix that issue.

    - The small infotainment screen. We have the 14” in our Sequoia. I thought the 8” wouldn’t bother me, but the display is the same as the 14” just shrunken. The infotainment in the 4Runner which is similarly sized was way more intuitive in the layout.

    - Lastly, the transmission. At 1000 miles I have an appointment next week for it to be replaced under warranty. It has a rattling sound coming out of it and Toyota directed the dealership to replace the transmission. I’m happy it’s being replaced without a fight but still shouldn’t happen on a new vehicle.

I’m not going to get into the engine issues. I bought mine before learning about them. Honestly, I normally do my homework better but I bought this off of Toyota’s legendary reliability. Hopefully I don’t have issues. But this is a lesson learned to research a purchase even if the brand is known for its reliability.

I’ve owned mine for about 6 weeks. I really like truck but all the negativity makes me feel like I’m driving a ticking time bomb.

SR5s can be equipped with the 8-way power Softex seats with lumbar. I have them in my SR5 and they are nice. So, you might be able to find some and transplant them. Just don't expect memory function, which is only available in higher trims.

Can you provide details on the rattling in your transmission that you’re experiencing?

Yes, at idle, if I stand next to the front wheels, the truck sounds rough. The best way I can describe it, is it almost is like the sound of a diesel engine at idle. The service department listened and agreed it didn’t sound normal and that the noise was coming from the transmission. They contacted Toyota who immediately directed them to replace the transmission.

What's the quote you got for Katzkin? I'm also considering.

Does it have the OEM pattern as well, or just a color match?

If you mean pattern like the OEM softex, no it does not. Just color match and perforated. Haven’t

Haven’t had it installed yet. I had to cancel the install to get the transmission replaced which ended up being the day I had previously scheduled the Katzkin install. Hopefully I can get the install scheduled for sometime in the next couple weeks.

I too did not notice the lack of height adjustment on the manual cloth seats, until it was home. It’s OK but not ideal. I read about the seat jackers to raise it up but I haven’t done that yet.

I have been making various seat spacers for years longer than the jacker guy. My market is the same as him for rear bracket spacers for Fords and Toyotas. I am now developing a better cheaper safer version of front jackers for the 22-24 Tundra. I am seeking someone to assist in the development and beta testing of this product. My rear bracket spacers are the safest in the entire market and are $20 per pair cheaper than jackers. My front spacer kits are expected to be under $35 shipped after development and testing. All of my products have a 30 day return for refund guarantee as will any new products. I am a retired individual that has my own home modern machine shop. If anyone is interested in this then let me know. I am looking for a little supplement to my retirement checks. I am not looking to get rich like others. The 1st 1 or 2 new sets will be shipped with bolts and instructions for around $25 which does not cover the materials and labor. This is a completely new design and in no way will be a copy of anyone elses. China already does enough of that.
