I have a 2024 tundra trd pro hybrid with 109k kms

spun a rod bearing last night on the way home. Toyota won’t do anything for me.
Regular warranty is 36months or 100k

they are telling me I have 3rd party warranty till 2030 or 175k Kms.
Will only replace bottom short block won’t give new engine.

Maintence record is immaculate as it’s had all Maintence always on time by my local Toyota dealer.

    any advice?
    Ty.

Be happy you have the 3rd party warranty and have them do the work. Long blocks are only going in the recalled vehicles.

Rod bearings are different from the main bearing failure recalls that get new engines. And your truck isn't covered under that recall.

Sorry, but you're at the mercy of whatever Toyota decides.

Such a shame… sold my Cummins to try Japanese gas. Looks like I’m headed back.

Have you called Toyota Corporate to get them involved? After that I am sure the press would be interested in the story.

Isn’t that the reason you bought the extended warranty?

If you have an extended warranty that will get you back together and on the road what more do you need? You're not getting a long block as only the recalled VINs are

This isn't always 100% the case.

There are plenty that have gotten a partial engine assembly instead of a short block. A partial engine assembly is different from the engine assembly being used in the recall.

Toyota Corporate isn't going to do anything if the customer has an extended warranty.

The press isn't going to care either. It is a known issue and while this failure is outside of the recall dates, it isn't anything new.

I will be interested in the long term of the new 2025 Cummins HO engine. Heard a lot of changes (not a bad thing considering all the HO engine failures).

    Toyota officially declined the warranty.

Service manager at Toyota says if 3rd party declines they will try a “good faith” purchase of a new engine I pay only 35% of total cost and labour. Yay!

I wasn’t aware that I paid for extended warranty until now. but they are also on the line of declining warranty because I don’t have 1 oil change receipt from when I first got the truck. when I first got the truck I had an oil change done at 7000 kms which is the one I’m missing because they are telling me that I haven’t had an oil change from 0-20k kms and that’s why it spun a rod NOW. When I heard that I was blown away at the stupidity I was dealing with.

But if you see my Toyota history from the dealer after that it was consistent oil changes at every 7k and all fluids done as per Maintence manual.

    RIP help me.

35% is still probably going to be in 5 figures.

Where were your oil changes done?

So, like a previous post, what did do with your truck ? A 2024 truck with 109.000km is quite a lot of driving, definitely way above average.

Uh, aren't these engines north of $30k?

    35% of 30k is $10,500.

That’s inflated hyperbole…..a way for Toyota to make it seem like they are helping the consumer by going them a favor and still recouping their cost. I don’t believe that for one second those are real world numbers.

I can only go by his dealership and what his is charging…..no it doesn’t cost that much. The price they charge the consumer for the repair and the price they charge Toyota for the warranty repair is very different…..

Well no shit Sherlock....this is true of EVERY manufacturer. This isn't what we are discussing here. OP said Toyota officially denied warranty and 3rd party "may" deny, so warranty pricing would be irrelevant here. If that happens, he has been offered the goodwill gesture of 35% of RETAIL and like #NotRyan said, it will be in the 5 figures.

Let me ask where you heard a replacement engine cost $30+k???? On this forum? Or another? Have you confirmed that to be true? Or just regurgitating someone else’s hyperbole?

I can only tell you what my buddy has told me - and there is a ton of misinformation out there regarding warranty, non-warranty, etc.

Regardless, if this was me, I would drop the hammer on Toyota corporate, the dealership and the third party warranty company. I wouldn’t accept a simple no for an answer……it would be interesting to know more about the usage of the truck and how so many miles were put on it. Work truck? Towing? If the only issue is missed documentation of one oil change 100,000km ago, I don’t believe that is the only issue here…..There is likely something more to this particular story.

in regards to engine replacement cost out of warranty, a $32k repair would likely total that truck if insurance were to get involved. Absent of the “good faith” I don’t see how anyone would absorb that kind of cost. His guess is whatever shop quoted the price of $32k to replace an engine and offering a 35% “good faith” cost, was trying to recoup their costs by making it seem like they were helping out the owner. His cost isn’t that much. However I didn’t initially notice that this was a hybrid so that may increase cost…..
