2024 Tundra 1794 edition brake issue
We purchased a brand new 2024 Tundra truck 1794 edition from Bob Tyler Toyota in Pensacola, Florida on July 6th, 2024. We have been Toyota owners for years and this purchase has been a disaster from the beginning. There are two huge issues…
The truck was brought out from the lot for the test drive, which was fine. We traded in a 2020 Tundra and went ahead with the purchase of the new truck. Paperwork was signed and as we were walking out the door, the sales representative, “Maggie” hands us one key fob and tells us that the other one is on back order but we should get it within 2 to 3 weeks.
Here it is, October 11th and after calls with the dealer, with corporate, and with the service manager, we still have no key fob and no date as to when it will be provided.

The second issue is that 3 days after purchasing the vehicle, we noticed a very loud screeching sound coming from the wheels. We literally had to cover our ears until it stopped.
After driving it for about a mile, the screeching stopped. This continued every morning when we would drive the truck, When we made our initial call to the service department, we were told that it was likely rust on the rotors from sitting on the lot and it would go away. We made a service appointment to have it physically looked at on August 21st. We were greeted by “Cory”, our service rep and we played a video of the screeching for him. Cory confirmed with us that there was a service bulletin having to do with the shims and the brakes. We were told to take the truck back home and they would call us as soon as the parts were in to rectify this issue. Today is October 12th and it has still not been fixed.
We have made several calls to inquire about the parts, only to be told that we were in the queue and there were several other vehicles affected but they continued to assure us that it would all be resolved within a few weeks.
We called again 2 weeks ago to find out that the service manager, Cory, had been promoted so we were turned over to someone else. That person told us that Cory had never placed the order and that we were back in the queue with no ETA on the repair.

Here we are today, and when inquiring, they had no update about the repair. After spending a half hour on the phone with the service department, they told us that there was now a revised service bulletin that includes the rotors also being defective. The service bulletin now includes replacing the brakes, shims and the rotors (but according to them it is safe to drive in the meantime). So, here we are several months after purchasing a brand new truck for almost 80k and we can’t drive it because Toyota still hasn’t fixed it and it doesn’t feel safe to drive.

If you research this issue, you can find numerous other customers having the same problem? What do we do to get this resolved?

    Welcome from NY.

Did you advise corporate about the brake issues and that Cory never documented your issue?

I sympathize with you. I love my Toyota’s, but the Toyota dealers around here are the worst. Constant issues with the service departments. Definitely call the Toyota experience line, they will usually get you a call back within 24 hours.

Rear brake noise wouldn't make me feel unsafe driving the vehicle, but everyone has their comfort zone, so I get it. I think the issue here, as with most now, is the money. These trucks are so expensive that the expectation level is perfection. New vehicles have never been perfect and likely never will. Some will make noise, or leak, or have a part that fails early. Just the way it is. Sucks for you OP, but I would not hesitate to drive a truck that had noisy brakes out of safety concern, maybe out of comfort concern if the screeching is ridiculously loud. The second fob thing seems like a joke at this point. It's been years since the supposed supply chain disruption. They can surely provide every Toyota buyer paying over $60k for a vehicle 2 fobs and make the plebes spending less than $60k wait for a second fob if they truly are still short on fobs.

I would definitely contact Toyota corporate. I hope Toyota gets all of this straight soon. While I'm not directly affected by it (2020 1794), it is still disheartening to hear about Toyota not taking care of their customers the way they used to.
