I've got a 2024 platinum hybrid tundra. This is my third one personally, and with all our company vehicles we've probably had about 12 tundras over the years I thought it would be an upgrade from my 2016, and there are some interior features that are kind of nice, but as a vehicle overall I have to admit I'm not impressed and frankly if I could find a like new 2021 or earlier I might be tempted to switch out.

although it's got lots of power once you get going, the responsiveness from start is ridiculously lacking. Several times when there's been an opening in traffic and I tried to go, step on the accelerator and nothing happens for probably one second. That has caused several near misses: maybe I'm too aggressive of a driver, however it's not a problem if I put the vehicle in tow, tow+, or sport mode. (In sport mode it's almost too responsive)
Just wondering if anyone knows of a way to make the vehicle stay in sport or tow mode all the time? Both of those things reset to "normal "mode every time you turn off the vehicle. (The way it acts, I really don't have any desire to drive it in normal mode at any time, So I usually change it when I think of it ,but it's annoying to have to always remember to change it)

I know the dealer cannot or will not do it. Just wondering if anyone knows of aftermarket solutions: seems like there should be a way to program the computer somehow.

I’d make sure that any tune you might find for it doesn’t become an excuse for your dealer to try to deny any warranty claims. Toyota was supposed to come out with a performance upgrade, but that has apparently been shelved as their attention is focused on the recall.

I’m not sure if any vehicle stays in sport mode after you turn it off. At least none I’ve ever owned. You will get used to that turbo lag on normal mode. It’s a different type of engine. I came from a 2nd gen and this newer one is 10x what the old one was. Give it a bit to get used to it and you will realize you made the right choice.

Can't say I ever experience any throttle response delay in Normal mode on my '24 Platinum Hybrid. Sport is a bit too snappy for normal driving for me, although it is fun to engage here and there. But I've never had any issues in Normal mode that caused any non-response for any amount of time.

I know there is that TSB or something that involves something about throttle response, but I don't know if that post got deleted along with the other ones or what vehicles it was for.

There is a TSB for throttle lag, but not sure it applies to your 24. After I had the recall for potential movement in neutral, I have had zero lag in my 23 Hybrid. Mine did it a couple times before the transmission update, and it was quite annoying, so I feel your pain.

I'm not sure if there is a way to keep in sport mode. At least you don't have to turn off the start/stop feature every time like the non-hybrids.

Hell, some newer cars make you turn off the alarm for when you exceed the speed limit, and it resets every time you start the car. As we get more and more tech and safety features, cars are going to be more and more annoying. That was one of the few dealbreakers that kept me from buying a new Ineos Grenadier.

My non hybrid hauls ass when I put my foot in it.

In any of the 8+ speeds geared for economy if you slow down then hit the gas you will catch the tranny in the wrong gear and it will lag. Nature of tranny beasts these days

Install a pedal commander or something similar. Allows you to adjust the responsiveness of the pedal.

    Same.

As far as the OP's hybrid: I would have thought the hybrid system would mask any initial lag from a dead stop.

Exceptions to what OP is doing:
I run in Sport mode almost all the time. Yes, it's a pain to switch it after every startup, but it becomes routine after a while.
The only time I notice any type of noticeable lag is the first two or three minutes after startup. Once the engine starts to warm up it's gone.
As you've found out, Tow and Tow+ will definitely get you moving.

Yeah in my hybrid, the electric motor is always ready to burn rubber from a stop.

I never had success with any power/pedal commander type products - it never helped with hesitation/lag issues in multiple vehicles. In my experience, the only thing it did was make the throttle act like it was pressed further (so, for example, if you press 1/4 travel, it feels exactly the same as if you press it to 3/4).

Maybe there is a subset of those issues that can be remedied by the commander, and I just haven't stumbled upon those.

Somethings wrong with your truck. I always drive in sports more with hybrid and I find the accelerator almost TO punchy, meaning if I put my foot in it, the thing launchs. Since Im not used to the pedal yet (in a year I only put 4K miles on it), I accedently punch it to hard sometimes (for example, I adust my foot on it and press it just a little bit and it launchs forward). This is my first full sized truck, I usually have sports cars and this think launchs like a sports car when you put your foot on it.

If you are always rolling in eco mode, all that does is massively retard the throttle and it would behave like you describe.

I have the same issues. Transmission tuning is terrible. Tow mode is actually my favorite for getting around town. Stillen makes a tuning module. They have been tuning twin turbos for 35 years. Anyone tried it?

I gotta say I agree with this. I also have a 24 platinum hybrid. It is just different to drive. If you just floor it the truck downshifts to get some RPMs, but if you want that snappy response you have tap into the torque at low RPMs. That’s why tow mode works so well.
