    1. Remove the black small cover to get the refill plug.

    2. Open drain plug.

    4. Measure how much dirty oil come out and refill the same amount new oil. For me it's about 2 quarts.

    5. Put back the drain plug(don't forget to change the gasket, I forgot it). I do 27 ft-lbs on the plug.

    6. Refill new oil (for me I added about two and half quarts). Tip: after refill new oil, put back the refill plug
rotate with 3 circles just in case some oil pop out when engine start.

    5. Bypass the transmission thermostat.

Push on top of the thermostat, then put a needle to block it.

    6. Drain dirty oil from the return line.

Disconnect the hose on the return line. Dirty oil will come out when engine start. When engine started, you can try PRND->DNRP serveral times to help transmission get all dirty oil out.

Shutdown engine when dirty oil drain out about 2 quarts(run engine 15~20 seconds). I don't know drain how much oil is safe, so I choose 2 quarts each time.

    7. Refill new oil and repeart start engine to drain out more, until the oil become very clean.

    8. I did 4 times to drain out all dirty oil.

    9. Please measure all dirty and new oil, make sure DRAIN and REFILL is exactly the same volume.

Cuz I don't know how to put the 10-speed transmission into oil level check model.

On 19K miles, oil still looks good. Left one is new oil, right is old.

Awesome! Was this just preventative maintenance?

Kind of. I'm just curious about why some people change their oil at 20K miles, so I dicide to check how dirty the 20K miles oil is.

I will push next flush to 80K~100K miles since most of transmission's metal dust is totaly gone.

    > SAE studies show that 75% of all the wear particles a transmission will see are present from factory and initial wear.

Called Toyota since I don’t get many responses on here even when I post on my own. 185-195 degrees.

    I have 125k on my 22 tundra
Never touched the trany for 3 years
Got it serviced by the dealer....
I never use the dealer & do all my maintenance at home....
But this time I took it in
    Why?
Cause I wanted to swap the strainer
Which it seems like no one is doing
Probably because no one has figured out a way to know the correct temp window to properly level out the fluid

It's interesting how the manual states no where to change the fluid, just to check it

My trany started hard downshifting around a year ago....I thought it was the driveshaft or rear diff, but since the trany service/strainer swap it's like new again

I'm going to perform the same service ever 100k miles (with the radiator)
& I would recommend this interval for yall too
If you do heavy pulls or notice rough downshifts (trany banging into a lower gear)
    Maybe aim for every 75k

The dealer charged me around $700
    $415 for labor & $300 for strainer, o-ring, & 15 quarts of fluid

A couple of items that makes it easier during the fill portion of fluid exchange. You can keep fill port connected with shutoff valve closed when engine is run to pump out old fluid in 2-3 quart increments.
