Hey there everybody, I haven’t posted anything here in almost a year. After having my 1st gen Sequoia for a year (don’t give me hate tundra guys) I’m in love with it. Used to have a 2006 tundra DC before it was totaled in 2022. I digress. Anyways I need new tires and am thinking of upsizing to 265/70/17. I’m on stock suspension, no lift no spacers. I just like the way they fill in the wheel well better. I would ask this on the sequoia forum, but it doesn’t get any traffic or posts at all so maybe you guys could help. I’ve heard of people getting away with this without rubbing for the most part, especially on the sequoias, because they don’t have that rake that stock tundras do. Also, how much does it throw the speedo off if i do upsize. I’d like to hear your thoughts. Sorry about the essay, I just want to be detailed.

Should be no rub on OEM wheels.

To see speedo error go to tire calculator click comparison tab

    input current and new size

    click compare

scroll to speedo section for error rates

to calculate how off your mileage will be, calculate percentage by dividing new smaller revolution number by the larger original revolution number. The result is your % amount to consider at fill up.

@Mr.bee well since you asked here you go. It’s my project car. I’m 19, going to school and gonna get another little part time job to juggle with that so I can continue fixing her up. I already replaced the wrecked header panel and now just gotta do the pass. fender where it was hit. It’s just a Pontiac 350, but upgraded to edelbrock intake with 4 barrel carb. Next up is headers, cam, exhaust, and all that good stuff when I start working and putting the money into it. All my friends love it. Me, though, I love it when it ain’t leaking something new lol

This kid is 19 and has more sense than most 30-40 year olds that I've met.

Those tires should do fine. I ran 265-70/16 on my DC and they fit fine. Could have maybe gone up, but I was already buying new parts for lift so I left them as is.

@Mr.bee I appreciate it man. Yeah, at this age, I couldn’t ask for anything more, I love my sequoia and firebird and am blessed to have them. It’s just a pain in the ass working on it in the heat. Anyways I forgot to add an engine shot. Recently repainted with some auto parts store “Pontiac blue” paint that really brought its looks back to life

As for the tires, not really worried about the speedo, I just my truck (or suv, whatever) to not have that “skipped leg day” look lol

Those were the days. Pull up to school with greasy forearms & smelling like gasoline. Flathead screwdriver stuck through a hole in the inner fender.

pics like that make me wanna hassle with mine again...once it cools off a bit.

Personal opinion about installing tires that are going to be a little over 1" taller?...that 1" it won't really be that noticeable whatsoever. What you will notice is that a taller tire will sap horsepower and fuel economy when compared to the stock sized tire. It will also change the shift points on the transmission. To each there own, but i find that it looks peculiar when a tire completely fills the wheelwell at static ride height. The reason being is that the vehicle stands a good chance that it won't be able to articulate without the tires rubbing on the frame or sheetmetal. That's just me though.

Post up some pics of your Sequoia as well!

A 1" taller tire on my Tundra was a very noticeable difference in acceleration and handling. And they rubbed my frame at full lock. But that's not everyone's experience. Some people can fit them without rubbing.

The difference in feel wasn't bad, just very noticeable.

Hey I have both and I love them both! Honestly prob like the sequoia a bit more cause it's so much smoother riding and gets much better mpg (mostly tire related). Also the sequoia 4wd system is way better too, at least for winter driving scenarios.

My tundra has 265/75/16 which is roughly the same size as 70/17 and it's only off a couple MPH (around 3%). I found I just go the speed limit and that puts my actual speed at a couple over, which is about the speed I drive..

My truck is lifted a touch and I have a little bit of rubbing at full lock. So expect to have some rubbing.

I pulled the trigger on the 265/70s, so far no rub at all on stock height and I’m happy with the way they look. As far as the concerns about the articulation, I’m not too worried about it as it’s only a 2WD and I don’t plan on attempting some radical off-road stuff, mall crawler if you will lol. Thank you guys for the support!

Edit: went with bfg trail terrains, k02 seemed way too much than what I need but wanted that semi rugged look

Another option to fix the speedo https://www.lutzauto.com/product-page/80-series-landcruiser-lx450-speedometer-calibrator From my research this should work on all 1st gen sequoias 2001-2007. Most likely the route I will go on mine. I like their a state side company. Don't have to route the wire inside. Can be secured under the vehicle with the included case.
