2011 5.7 RW with cold weather (even though it's lived in AZ it's entire life) and tow packages. It has a 24 series battery in it (I bought it used). I assume it has the 150 alternator in it because of the packages. Is there any advantage to putting in a 27 series battery when the time comes? It has the large battery tray, I'm wondering if the prior owner just didn't care too much about it when he had to replace it. The two batteries are very close in price (sealed gel), and it would be nice to have the extra reserve since I occasionally dry camp with my travel trailer. And no, I am not considering an AGM battery.

Why are you against going with a AGM?
Less to worry about when it’s hot as balls, rarely do people check or top off their battery water

A couple of reasons. I don't think they are worth the extra cost. I have heard of a couple of instances where the AGM failed prematurely likely due to being charged too quickly or overcharging. They like to be charged slowly. Since the vehicle was designed to be used with a lead acid battery, I'll go with that. I have had good luck with them for many years.

I've been running a group 24 for a couple of years now. The only extra accessories that I have is a light bar which doesn't even get used..

Thanks for the replies. I will go with a 27 gel when the time comes since it's very close in price to the 24. As a side note, I installed an AGM in my motorcycle a couple of months ago (because that was all I could source locally) and it has been fine.

Usually AGMs fail from under charging. They require a higher voltage to be topped off. Which some newer vehicles don’t put out that proper voltage. Lots of threads on diode boosters and what not. I just use a maintainer that’s deigned for AGMs and plug it in once a month

I would bet the original owner either decided to save some $ or he got the battery at Wal Mart. When my OEM died prematurely I went to Wal Mart and the only batteries they had that work in Tundras was 24s. The dude working there told me they quit stocking 27s because of demand. The terminals are opposite on the 27s they stock.

The Costco near me has plenty of 27F in stock, and only $4 more than the 24F.

    Man,
Go for the gold. Get an X2 in 27F and call it a day. Batteries Plus runs specials periodically.

No thanks. That's a flood battery. The Interstate batteries at Costco are gel. I've had very good service from Interstate in the past. Thanks for the info, though.

I put a D3400R XS Power battery in my Tundra it has a 3000amp reserve 1150amp 32- .. really good battery for the price its the correct dimensions except a inch shorter witch isn a issue just neet some spacers on you battery hold down nuts. I did buy the adapter to bolt the posts on. But probably going to convert back so i run bus bars in stead of posts.

I was in the dilemma between that or odessy went with XS since it was only like a $80 for so many more amps
