Has Toyota ever put a 28 gal tank on the 2017 tundras? Every time I fill my truck up it consistently stops at 28 gal. Every gas station I go to it goes to 28 and stops. And I don’t do the the top off thing that others do. Once it stops I stop. I’m just curious if anyone else is experiencing this.

Sounds like you have the 38 gallon tank. I have the 26, just drove from az to va. I would stop when I had about 1/4 tank left. Miles to empty would say about 65. It would only take 15 gallons. A little frustrating but in the back of my mind I knew I could go a lot further if I needed to. Btw, gas just west if Dallas was under $2 a gallon.

If it stops at 28 gallons every time, I would certainly hope it wouldn't be a 28-gallon tank. That would mean you're coasting into the gas station on fumes every time.

My 2018 has a 38-gallon tank. If I fill up around the time the low fuel light comes on, it'll take 29-30 gallons to fill it back up IIRC. It's just a built-in buffer. Most vehicles you'll be able to drive some time after the low fuel light comes on. The Tundra just has a lot more safety margin than most.

I never let my fuel light come on. I always fill up around 80-100 miles to empty

Not sure why you'd think you have a 28-gallon tank then.

Pretty sure it’s either 26 or 38. If you’re putting 28 gal in, you have the 38. Mine is a ‘17 and I got the bench seat up front and column shifter. If you’ve got the bucket seats and center console shifter, you got the upgrade package that comes w 38 gal tank. I’d have loved that 38 gal tank but couldn’t get it w the bench seat.

Yep, I'd have preferred a bench seat with a fold down center console, but really wanted the 38-gallon tank, among other things.

    LED headlamps/fogs; interior footlamps.
    Right On.

My 26g allowed to go to Zero miles LTE (75 or so miles after Mr Low Fuel warning), can only be filled to 19.5 or so....it is a large 'buffer'

The way I believe it works is the low fuel light comes on when you have around 8 gallons left. The reason being is because it is such a large tank it takes 8 gallons to keep the fuel pump submerged, the gas actually helps to cool the fuel pump, so while you could drive 80+ miles after the fuel light comes on it can wear your pump out faster.

The only factory tank options in 2014+ trucks are the 26 gallon and the 38 gallon. You have the 38. If you want to confirm, put your VIN in here. It will tell you the packages you have. https://www.toyota.com/owners/my-vehicle/vehicle-specification

IIRC the SR5 Upgrade package is the one that increased the tank size. Might be a different package for your year though.

You can Google the packages listed by the 2 letter code, or build and price and read the things added by various packages. The LED headlights are part of the TRD off road package, and the SR5 upgrade package adds the 38 gallon rank.

The packages weren't the same year to year. You'd have to find a record of what the package has entailed for your model year truck. The LED headlights weren't available for your model year. Going to the Toyota owners thing and putting you in your VIN does not tell you what is in the packages. It lists the packages your truck has, and then you have to go find what was in those packages for your year. That is where you will find out what tank you have. Or, you can crawl underneath the truck and look. The 38 gallon tank is about 6 ft long.

OP...you do know how fuel tanks work regarding fuel pumps and reserves right? You have a 38 gallon tank.
